Listen to any or all of the shows, as two Baby Boomers and featured guests take a digital time machine back to the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and other times and years that will have listeners reminising happy, sad, and day-to-day life as a Baby Boomer.
Betamax or VHS? - Back When There Was a Choice
On this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, Smitty welcomes back pioneering Videophile Ray Glasser to the Show. Ray was on the program a few years ago, and on this return visit, Smitty and Ray recall the anniversary specials of the TV Networks which aired in the mid to late 1970s. In those years, the television networks celebrated their golden and silver anniversaries, by presenting unique and extravagant programs to commemorate these events. The programs focused on the history and origins of the networks which began as radio networks before venturing in television. We look back and compare the historically-rich specials of that time period to the more showy song and dance programs of later anniversaries. The differences in audiences and how people watch television from those days to these modern times are discussed. Additionally, Ray shares memories of those early years of home video recording, and the excitement of being able to record programs for later playback and preservation. Also the superior quality of the Betamax format is discussed by Betaphiles Ray and Smitty. It's a nostalgic look back at those years of television and what we watched as we celebrated those anniversaries. Car Memories!
Galaxy Good Guy Tom Dulaney joins us as we remember fad, fun, and muscle cars of the 1960's and 1970s. Tom's expertise sizes up many of that time period's fad cars, like the Chevrolet Vega, AMC Pacer, Volkswagen Beetle, and other memorable compact and economy cars. Our discussion of Pontiac GTOs and big block Chevys and Fords may race across your memories, bringing back the smell of burning tire rubber and twenty-nine cent Hi-Test gasoline. We discuss the evolution of today's electric cars, and remind show listeners that non-gasoline powered vehicles go back to the early 20th century! Who out there recalls the childhood thrill of taking to the road in the family station wagon or large sedan, back in a time of cheap gas and gas guzzlers? Order a burger, fries, and a triple thick milkshake, then hop into your cruiser and join us on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network https://bit.ly/MuscleCarsFadCars

Where Will it All Go, When We Go?
Where will our stuff go when we go? That's a question many of us who have collections or other items have asked ourselves at one time or another. What will happen to our items once we pass away? On this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, we look to Galaxy Good Guy, Mike Bryant . As a long-time collector of vintage bottles and other collectible items, Mike has seen instances where the passing of a person who owned jewelry, collectibles, and family heirlooms have ended with either a peaceful settlement or a feud within a family. In many cases, a amicable settlement depended on what preparations and arrangements had been previously made. Mike's insight and experiences over the years sheds light on a topic that can be quite daunting. Fortunately, there are things we can do to minimize misunderstandings or hurt feelings, once we are gone. In addition, we discuss what's hot and what's not as far as present day collectibles. A most enlightening and informative show for everyone, especially those of us who are collectors. Our Retro-Commercials are memorable musical ones for the 1966 Chevrolet, and Mallory Duracell Batteries. Join us on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network! Click here: https://bit.ly/BabyBoomerCollectibles

"A Little Dab'll Do Ya", and Christmastime with Ian Rose
It's Christmastime here at Galaxy Nostalgia Network! On this program, we remember our friend Ian Rose (pictured), who passed away in 2014. As one of the original Galaxy Guys, Ian joined us at the start of our radio shows and podcasts almost 14 years ago. Today's show is an encore presentation of Program 33, from 2010: Ian and Smitty recall "A Charlie Brown Christmas", while Mike B. remembers "Greasy Kid Stuff": those pomades, tonics and hair care products that were popular with guys in the 1950s-1960s. Additionally, Ian recalls radio station automation, something he witnessed first hand in his early years as a radio broadcaster and traffic reporter. Our Retro-Commercial is a memorable one for Cracker Jack, the candy-coated popcorn snack. Our crew of Galaxy Good Guys and Good Gals wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year. We'll be back in 2024 with more golden memories of the Baby Boomer years, here at the multi-award winning Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network. https://bit.ly/3tvZ1iT

Baby Boomer Retirement, As Seen From Author Laura Black: "Climbing Down the Ladder"
Retirement...It's a topic we have all thought of at one time or another. Whether you are retired or are getting close to retirement, or even if retirement is far off, have you thought about what you will do once your obligation to go to work each day has ended? That's a question we examine on this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site. Joining us is Laura Black, author of "Climbing Down the Ladder, A Journey to a Different Kind of Happy". Laura shares her experience after retirement: How after a very active and successful working career she had to adapt to a new way of life. Laura shares early years, all the way back to childhood, and how she developed her career and moved forward until the time came for retirement and adapting to a new way of life and being OK with it, and not being hard or critical about the past. BREAKFAST IS READY!
We recall breakfasts of the past on this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site. Breakfast time when we were kids ranged from simple cold cereal with milk we had while getting ready for school, to waffles, pancakes, bacon, and maybe an egg or two on the weekends. Not like today where the morning meal is prepared in the toaster or microwave oven, mid-century breakfasts were prepared from scratch, or frozen items that were limited back then. Other breakfasts from mom or dad, or maybe grandparents were prepared for us as our mouths watered with anticipation. Also were quick or instant breakfast foods such as drinks and wrapped bars that promised the energy equivalent of a full breakfast but usually fell short of a cooked breakfast we might have preferred. Yummy memories of the past as we began our day as kids. Grab a bowl of oatmeal or a plate of scrambled eggs and buttered (not margarine) toast and join us on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network! https://bit.ly/BabyBoomerBreakfast

Earning Money During Summer Vacation
On this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, we look back to the days of working during summer vacation. We revisit those days when kids worked during summer months to earn extra money, and recall a variety of jobs such as yard work, food service, helping out in local stores and shops, or just doing odd jobs around the neighborhood. The satisfaction of earning our own money was rewarding while we learned responsibility, punctuality, and budgeting, along with meeting people with all types of personalities. Youthful employment was often great preparation for job positions and perhaps a career in our adult life, which we also touch upon. Think of a favorite job from your youth and join us on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network! Click here: https://bit.ly/3PvJnLq

"Life" is a "Risk" That Requires "Concentration" (Board Games of the Past)
Remembering board games on this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site: Mike and Smitty are joined by Galaxy Good Gal Margaret Sizemore Clark. Together we recall those days when we played various board games of the mid 20th century. Games such as Life, Concentration, Clue, Monopoly, and many others were popular among kids and adults. Other games including Yahtzee, Mousetrap, Operation, and Lie Detector kept us occupied and entertained for hours. This was an era when games weren't plugged in to the wall or connected to the Internet (which was non-existent back then); Most games were free of technology, yet they could be just as challenging. Our Retro-Commercial is a jingle for Delta Airlines, from back in the days when it was much more fun and simple to buy a ticket and take a flight!
