All human institutions, customs, traditions, and ways of being originate to serve the needs of specific peoples. The collective experiences, struggles, and beliefs of a tribe create a pattern of being, or a code, that organically rises to meet their specific challenges and perpetuate their way of life. These institutions and systems are territorialized, meaning they are deeply embedded in the specific cultural context of the tribe and serve its unique needs. But the modern world is breaking those systems apart and creating new versions that only serve their own ends. That process is redefining the way our politics work and will radically alter our society if we fail to understand the transformation that is taking place.
