Caleb Fisher talks about his first love- basketball. Growing up in Holt, Michigan, Caleb played with the same group of guys who didn’t lose for four years straight. He talks about memories playing AAU tournaments, adjusting to a different style of play for his high school team, and his decision to forgo playing in college to prioritize academics. Caleb went on to study computer science at the University of Michigan, where he decided to join the rugby team. Practically thrown to the wolves by being asked to play in his first game only days after learning the rules, Caleb ended up scoring and decided to stick with the grueling sport. He talks about the learning curve, fun times, and hard work that went into his time as a rugby player.

After college, Caleb began coaching an AAU basketball team in Oregon. Caleb discusses his coaching philosophies- emphasize the fundamentals, teach the importance of hard work, and coach with empathy. All of his athletes made their high school teams this year, and he looks forward to getting the team back together this spring as they begin the college recruiting process. After listening to this episode, you will see why they are so lucky to have Caleb as not only a coach, but a life mentor.
