Great show
Jerusalem and Matt are great together!

Fascinating wonky discussion and debate
Jerusalem and Matt cover a range of interesting topics and go deeper than most other shows while still keeping the discussion lively and approachable.

Back in the Weeds?
I have really appreciated The Argument in written and audio formats. I think Jerusalem Demsas is brave and brilliant, and a very good host and analyst. I enjoyed earlier episodes with different guests, notably on housing and climate. While I am still trying to embrace the premise and am pushing myself to engage with differing (and notoriously “heterodox”) viewpoints and opinions, I am unfortunately remembering during the asylum episode that I can ordinarily only stand to listen to Matt Yglesias for about 20 minutes at a time.

A tough but worthwhile listen
I think that the topics of this podcast are relevant and interesting, but, boy, are the recordings difficult to listen to. Jerusalem speaks very quickly, almost too quickly to make out, and the hosts constantly interrupt each other. I find myself wondering if something interesting was about to be said if it hadn’t been cut off by the other host.

Claude Summaries
Jerusalem in an episode sought a Claude summary of something Matt said. Riveting stuff from some of our best online minds.

Breath of Fresh air
Well done- I don’t always agree with the opinions shared by the host or its guests but I don’t deny the deep level of introspection reached to get them.

Love Demsas but….
I really appreciated earlier episodes with Demsas’ interviewing other guests. Love how comprehensive she is. I love the deeply informed Substack articles she and other Argument writers are delivering. Cannot stand Yglesias as a co-host. He’s pendantic and defaults to constantly taking contrary opinions based on his own vibes and gut checks. I cannot listen to him, and sadly cannot listen to the podcast now.

Yglesias? No thanks
Jerusalem Demsas is great, but adding Matt Yglesias is a shame. We already have enough smug, snarky pundits who thrive on negativity.

Content Good, Delivery Poor
As a fan of "The Argument" I was pleased to see this. After a hlaf dozen episodes, it is a delete for me. The interviewer/host style is so off-putting, to the point of distraction. This is clearly a platform for them to air their own opinions. It is not an interview as much as it is two parallel conversations that occasionally intersect. Also...slow.down. Learn from the pacing of Sam Harris, Ezra Klein, and Ross Douthat. Thoughtful, engaging, inviting. Pity, as this had such promise.

Refreshing!
I was hoping Jerusalem was going to do another podcast after “Good on Paper”! It’s so refreshing to hear an in depth discussion about important issues that is backed by research and includes potential solutions instead of just doom and gloom everyday!

Mixed
I really like Demsas’ writing, worldview, and expertise. I appreciate and what she is trying to accomplish here, but I slightly struggle with her interview style. I’d be curious to see a minute or word count breakdown between her and her guests. I sometimes have the feeling that she is interviewing folks just to share her own perspectives/knowledge of the topic, rather than platforming her guests or creating space for a true “argument.” It makes me a little uncomfortable as the listener, and makes me wonder how her guests feel when she cuts them off to monologue on their topic of expertise. Not to say that she is not knowledgeable or insightful, but it’s a slightly rough listening experience for me. Nonetheless, I’m glad that folks like Demsas are engaging with other worldviews.

The Argument is Awesome
Love everything you’ve done so far, really bringing vitality and dynamism and critical thinking back to a left-wing discourse that had been swallowed by Pod Save Echo Chamberism. One quibble: contrary to your latest guest’s assertions, I’ve lived in Berkeley for well over a decade and have never met any of the polyamorous rationalists that supposedly populate our cocktail parties… I would suggest that they are a tiny cohort overrepresented on substack and in the imaginations of frightened conservatives.

I’m here from reason 🗽🇺🇸
Marketing is everything. It’s such a blessing. It allows for people from different backgrounds to meet , listen , learn , and ultimately support people that we would never have if no one decided to step outside of our bubble. I enjoyed you on the reason podcast and I look forward to enjoying your podcast. Good luck and god bless 🙏🏿🗽🇺🇸💝:)

A mirror image of Bari Weiss
Not sure Demsas would see this as a compliment, but I see a lot of similarities between what she’d doing at The Argument and what Bari Weiss accomplished at TFP. Both are renewal projects for the American journalistic landscape, and both have me very excited about the future of American media. Recently, Bari Weiss identified the need for a loud, charismatic voice to represent American centrists like myself. Then this podcast appeared shortly thereafter! It’s left leaning, but fair-minded about conservative ideas and policies. I love this podcast!

Fantastic.
I’m very excited about this whole project. It’s time for a revitalization of liberalism and reasonable disagreement. Glad to see Demsas at the helm.

Long Live American Liberalism!
I just subscribed to the pod but have been following along with what these guys are putting out and I’m stoked about this whole project. Basically everything about American politics is depressing right now but these guys are joyfully doing more than decrying a literal straw man who happens to be occupying the White House right now - they’re making reasoned, positive arguments and aren’t kowtowing to faddish “liberal” taboos that are in some part responsible for Trump’s victory. May it not be too late for them to become a powerhouse in American politics.

Engaging and refreshing!
I’m a big fan of Jerusalem Demsas’ writing about housing and was curious to check out The Argument. I really like that she’s decided to create a podcast where she’s encouraging rigorous intellectual debates. I’m learning new things and feeling challenged to go deeper in my own perspectives.

So excited to hear more from The Arg!

One of the best conversations ever
I’m kind of blown away by the first episode of this podcast. The conversation is simultaneously incredibly wide-ranging and incredibly specific, both zooming out to the whole forest and very much in the weeds (no pun intended :P). If you want to think about how to build a better world, even in times like these, listen to this.
