What a blessing his knowledge of Classics and Historical Christianity has been in my understanding of how to relate to those of differing faith backgrounds. Check the podcast out!

What’s this? A post pandemic podcast that isn’t an echo-chamber? People with differing traditions CAN be friends? Inconceivable! I was impatient with the banter at first, but have grown to love it. It’s like sitting there in the room with them. If you want lecture style content, there’s plenty of other shows on AFR. And if you listen on, you’ll surely benefit from the topics discussed.

As a Christian, avid AFR podcast listener, and licensed clinical psychologist, I found it problematic and deeply ironic that three people with no formal training in psychology felt it would be appropriate to discuss how another individual did not have the authority or training to be in his role. While several psychology buzzwords such as “narcissism,” “wired to connect,” and “trauma” were used throughout this podcast, there was very little depth to this conversation. This episode began by saying that there was going to be a conversation about trauma, and there certainly was a conversation about trauma, but there was no conversation about attachment styles, personality theory, disrupted attachment, etc. Rather than being a conversation about trauma, the conversation became more of a judgment or critical commentary. There were some things I appreciated about this conversation, and I enjoy the podcast in general, but perhaps the hosts need to be a little bit more reflective about the boundaries of their own competence when they decide to sit in judgment about the boundaries of another person’s competence. It would also have been appropriate to disclose that Nicole‘s PhD is not in psychology, at least, as far as I’m aware, as I have been told that her PhD is in history and as none of her online presence indicates that she herself is a licensed clinical psychologist.

Fun and engaging chatter that has depth and value. I love when the discussion turns serious as you can tell they take their calling with reverence.

Really great content and guests. I am very happy that their release schedule seems to be getting more regular again.

Fr. Andrew and Pastor Mike offer pastoral wisdom and theological concepts nicely bundled in a humor filled package with plenty of nerdy references. Barring Fr. Andrew’s horrendous opinion that DS9 is better than TNG, the Areopagus provides interesting discussions between different Christians. The guests are interesting, and as a cradle Orthodox it’s always a pleasure to hear about the Christian experiences of Americans outside of Orthodoxy. If you’re Orthodox, listen, if you’re not, still listen. There’s something for everyone open to being exposed to different Christian traditions.

These two are clearly bright, educated, and thoughtful. The episode topics are almost entirely intriguing and significant. Unfortunately, each one starts with 10-20 minutes of chatting, catching up on what the hosts are up to in their personal and professional lives, and just joking around. It’s charming mostly, but carries on way too long. Also, this makes it difficult to jump in if you don’t know them. Not sure who the “audience” is for the opening segment. Maybe parishioners and friends? They also occasionally make negative, blanket comments about groups of people (from Republicans to only children - weird) that seem mostly teasing but not entirely. Anyway, this occasionally mean sense of “humor” plus a lot of personal fluff plus a 2-hour length makes it a real slog to get to the good stuff. The kernels of wisdom are certainly there, if buried. Give them a listen by all means, but be ready to hit the fast forward button...

The knowledge and intentions are impeccable - offering hope in a world plagued by division and intolerance! I enjoy every episode - I think it speaks to anyone yearning to seek and understand the things that are truly important!!

Great podcast! Been listening since the beginning. Insightful views on Christian topics from Orthodox and Protestant perspectives. Opinions are given and taken with civility and respect.

This is currently my favorite podcast. It’s meaningful, important, kind and respectful, and also fun. There’s such a variety between the episode topics and yet Fr. Andrew and Pastor Mike stay true to their audience with civil discourse between historic Christianity and other traditions. I should also point out that this has been my jumping off place to other good podcasters, bloggers etc. Way to go guys.

Great episode: Created for worship. I agree with your all’s take on some modern worship songs where the word babe may be substituted for the name of Jesus. It made me think of the many popular songs I enjoy that could easily be turned into modern worship songs by substituting the word Jesus or the church for whatever the subject of the songwriter happens to be. Which gave me the idea for a listener driven episode where the topic would be based on two lists of songs, on the left column (choir) modern worship hymns where the word babe is substituted for the word Jesus while the right column (choir) is a list of modern pop songs where the name of Jesus or the church is substituted for the secular object of the song. Have a poll at the end and decide who has the better cannon

I just discovered the Areopagus and I'm blowing through the episodes. As a charismatic evangelical wanting to learn about and explore every corner of the Christian faith, I've longed for years to find a place of charitable discussion between my tradition and those of the mainline Protestants, the Roman Catholics, and the Eastern Orthodox Christians. This podcast is a treasure.

The Areopagus is one of the most enjoyable and edifying podcasts I have heard. It challenges me to pursue the Lord constantly makes me reconsider my beliefs and preconcieved ideas. I just recently found your podcast and have "binged" listened the entire collection with the exception of Being Light in the World. I'll listen to that tomorrow on my way to and from work. I've really only been exposed to Orthodoxy, through birth, and Catholicism through friendships. The very little exposure I've had to Protestantism has not really taught me anything except for the fact that I knew I didn't want a bunch of strangers laying hands on me and praying for me. I've never had dialogue with Protestants about religion, and quite frankly would avoid it because of my lack of understanding or education on all denominations. Your podcast is helping me see it's not that scary and I actually could dialogue even with my limited knowledge. I appreciate your message of engaging with people in a loving manner because that's what Jesus calls us to do.

I go to a very evangelical university, but through mutual friends I met an Orthodox student there several months ago, and have been interested in the Orthodox faith ever since (I will be converting in the next month). I've only listened to the first recording, but it is enough to remind me that disagreement need not prevent me from getting along (and more!) with non-Orthodox people, something I have struggled with more than a little bit since Orthodoxy found me in February. Thank you for the light you have shed upon this subject.

I love this podcast. It's right up my alley as a Protestant inquiring into the Orthodox church, but I recommend it to anyone interested in the faith. The friendship of these two helps model how to be humans.

As someone who still interacts with mostly non-Orthodox, this series has been great in helping keep the “convertitis” to a dull roar and keeping the ideas flowing for conversations. My only complaint is the rabbit trails can be a bit much even if they are entertaining

As a current Protestant who feels "on the way" towards Orthodoxy yet still appreciates the Protestant church, the open, friendly, informative conversations on relevant, interesting topics between the two branches of Christianity is refreshing and such a blessing. Doesn't hurt either that the hosts seem to be loving, mature, and fun individuals who are easy to listen to.

A must listen for anyone interested in Christian comparative theology.

In our current times of political and theological divisions, this podcast serves as a good example of civil discourse in order to keep pursuing truth.

I have friends who are Christian Orthodox, Protestants (from various demoniations), Muslims (different sects), Hindus and Bhudist. I live in Silicon Valley and my circle of friends becomes diversed very quickly. I'm a Christin Orthdox, but did attend prtestant church(s) before while going to college. I like the format and dialouge of the program as well as the cool title. It sums up my lifestory. To quote Fr. Andrew from the the first podcast, "People will not listen to you until they know they are being heard first". From my experience and encounters I couldn't agree more. May God bless all of you.

As an Orthodox catechumen, it is encouraging to my faith to see an Orthodox priest and Protestant pastor have such loving, edifying conversation. Both know that the other does not fully agree with him but their mutual respect and charity make it possible for good dialogue. It's a model of sticking to your convictions but in a loving, respectful way that I hope to model in my conversations with my Protestant friends.

one of my favorite podcasts. The 2 hosts obviously respect and care for each other, which is the key to their success, bringing depth, thoughtfulness and even comedy to the listener.

One of the things I love about Father Andrew and Pastor Michael's collaboration is how they bring such a friendly conversational banter to their project of dialoging with other denominations and religions, while engaging very deep material without skipping a beat. Fitting for a podcast using historical Christianity as its jump off point, the work of theology is here clearly engaged with the stuff of life. These two are clearly living this, and bringing all the resources of their significant intellects and humor to it. Great listen!

I was excited for this podcast to start since it was first announced, and I haven't been disappointed in the slightest. I love getting to hear everyone's insights into the topics that are discussed, and it helps me to chew on and digest some topics in the Faith I hadn't considered before. I was very skeptical of this podcast before ever listening as the concept seemed it may be too daunting to actually pull off. Wow, was I wrong! I find the viewpoints so refreshing, interesting, and beneficial for me as someone who has understanding in both Protestant and now Orthodox theology. Love this and highly recommend! I really wasn't planning on this being a "must listen to immediately" podcast, but it is for me. :) Thank you to both Fr. Damick and Rev. Michael for sharing your friendship and discussions with us all. As a new convert to Orthodox (almost a year ago), this has been such an interesting podcast, enriching my life in many ways.

This podcast helps "bridge the gap" between Orthodox Christianity and all other types of Christianity in America. Orthodoxy is either seen as cultural or even worse, a cult, when in actuality it holds the history and can trace its origins back to the times of Christ. For those who already listen to Ancient Faith Radio, or at least for most, that fact is already recognized. This podcast seeks those Ortho-curious - those who wonder why it's suddenly appealing in America, even though it has been held as the true Body of Christ for 2,000 years. This informal, coffee-talk type of podcast helps reach out to those curious but is also deep enough for the Orthodox who listen to Father Andrew's other talks. I highly suggest this podcast.
