Interrupts
Hard to listen when there is consistent interrupting of the guests.

Not a fan of therapy sessions
Not loving the therapy sessions. Seems like trying to replicate Esther Perel’s sessions on her podcast. Getting to far away from angry therapist “therapy in a shot glass” that we all love. These therapy sessions are too long without anything to enlightening in them.

Lacking depth
I read one of john’s books about how to be single, in it i learned that he was miserable but then bought a motorcycle, joined crossfit and became a life coach. A year ago I listened to the podcast where he talked about joining crossfit, getting a motorcycle and becoming a life coach. Then his new book came out with his wife where he detailed joining crossfit, getting a motorcycle snd becoming a life coach. I stopped listening until just the other night I figured I would try again but I’m not kidding, the episode was about joining crossfit, getting a motorcycle and becoming a life coach. Ive done crossfit, I have a motorcycle and career, those things are ok but they arent at the root of my issues and dont help me in a meaningful way(beyond making me money and keeping me fit) and I would say that if crossfit changed your life you weren't that messed up to begin with.

John and Vanessa is a great combo
I love the both of you In totally different ways!! I could write a book on the complexity of your awesome relationship advice and how it has been a breath of fresh air to me! My only constructive criticism is to slow down your talking! Ha, ha! I know you both have so much info inside of you but it often comes off as aggressive and makes listening a bit difficult. Otherwise love the podcast! Still 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Angry Therapist needs Therapy
Could not resonate whatsoever with this guy. Some people in his audience were actually also therapists? Yikes! Big no thanks!!

I like the shirt quick tips podcasts
Love when he has short episodes that get right to the point. Like the chapters in his books. Also worth playing a drinking game by taking a shot every time he says “flow state” or “drop into your body” or “hugging canyons”. You’ll be tipsy in 15 minutes! :)

Horrible sound quality.
Can’t hear it, awful.

A bit too negative for my taste
I probably should have known from the branding of "the Angry Therapist" that he wasn't for me. Let's focus on the pros as you might love him. I do find he chooses great topics and pieces that are important to any health journey, so there's definite value there especially if you are new to therapy or personal growth. I also find he has great tools and exercises such as write yourself a letter from your future self. He also seems to have a claim pleasant voice. I just find his approaches to things are a bit too much on the negative side. I'm all for realism and vulnerability but I found a lot of his examples and mantras to putting negative messages in my head that weren't there before. If you're coming from a darker place than me, you might love him. I hope he finds the people that needs him most.

Background noise
Great podcast but way too much lip smacking, gulping etc coming through the mic. It was too distracting for me to continue.

Worth Every Star
John has played a pivotal role in my healing journey (which started from rock bottom in December 2021). I was recommended “It’s not me, it’s you,” and then found the podcast after. The top three reasons I love this podcast: 1. He is unapologetically himself—coffee sipping and all. He also talks about the fact that he doesn’t do any production and so it’s very unpolished. 2. I went all the back to episode 1 and have started listening to his earlier episodes, and I very much appreciate that he is consistent. He is not wishy-washy going with what ever is trendy in the psych world. He has kept the same mentality about many things, but also acknowledges when he’s changed. 3. I love his anecdotal approach. He is not on a high horse, he’s sharing that he’s still a work in progress. Also from John I’ve found Vanessa

Couldn’t focus on the content
If you must drink something during the 30 mns it takes to record, why not cut out the sounds? I’ll think it cut out then hear that terrible gulp sound in my headphones then a loud sharp lip smack. Why??

long time listener
i’ve been listening to john since 2018, i’ve grown into a better person and partner with his insight guiding me. i made a huge life decision to end a long term relationship with my then boyfriend in 2018 because we just weren’t on the same page and john helped me realize that love is not a contract. there are no guarantees. i lived a life of grabbing and no boundaries. i pointed fingers. i had no ability to take accountability for the role i played in expired relationships and didnt know what attachment styles were. my early relationship blueprint came from my parents and i thought that was the holy grail so when i found partners that didnt fit that mold i forced and manipulated and guilt tripped , & i let things slide and abandoned myself bc to me love was unconditional and somewhere along the way i learned love meant saving others at the expense of yourself. John helped me realize i had some deep work to do, & so did my partner and we needed to part ways and grow. in 2020, i introduced my (ex) partner to Angry, & we worked our way back to center using johns tools & our personal recovery work with therapists etc. to be better for ourselves and eachother. while we form our own opinions and implement it in the ways that work for us, we consider what John says pretty heavily. communication, loving without our past, swimming past the breakers, getting out of our heads and into our bodies, choosing one another daily.. it’s helped to where we are now.. life partners choosing to do life with one another not around, who also happen to be married now. i tell everyone about the angry therapist. john, you dont know me, but you have changed my life and i am forever a loyal listener. thank you for your work.

OK
Topics are OK and podcast is OK, as long as you don’t mind lip smacking, sipping beverages, and other mouth sounds in your ear and can get through a whole episode.

good stuff
agree. binge listening in a shot glass and speaking with you instead of at you.

A good effort, unfortunately had to unsubscribe.
There is clear care and effort in messages that he produces. Yet a lot of the audio production needs desperate work. A few afternoons learning to use audacity or another audio editing platform would fix a lot of the small things. A pop filter, and an inexpensive microphone would fix the other.

Excellent
Every episode has been a timely input into my life. Thank you for sharing your insights, revelations and the rich conversations. I am grateful.

Annoying!
The podcasts themselves are good, what makes them tough to listen to is the constant slurping and swallowing of his drink…
Andrewrski
Weird Ad Placement.
Ads in the middle of a sentence is distracting.

The lip smacking is super distracting and disrespectful
I think the John Kim is very unique in his down to earth, concise approach to therapy, and seems to have a genuine interest in getting to the root of people’s problems. However, the lip smacking, sipping drinks etc is super distracting and takes away from concentrating on the message he is trying to convey.

wow…
talk about arrogance and entitlement…this guy thinks he has something to offer…he’s wrong…

Excellent visceral content
Love this podcast, recently discovered this package of wisdom and transparency. I very much value and appreciate the honest and real approach to being a man, a husband, a father, a human. This podcast will help everyone both with themselves and with their relationships, regardless of gender. There are several complaints about the ads.. I don’t see the ads as a distraction or hinderance, I see them as a necessary component of providing valuable content at our fingertips.. free to us. Things worth having don’t come easy.. sit through the ads. It’s worth it.

So helpful
I love the Angry Therapist podcast. I listen to them as soon as they come out. He is funny and also very real with his observations.

Love the content, but the ads…
Way too many ads, and since most of them are spoken by John himself, it interrupts the flow of content more so than if it were an ad spoken by someone else. It’s like wait, what was he talking about? What does this have to do with….oh, it’s an ad. And then another. And then another. Followed by another. 😩
BriDan85
Fix it please
Content is good, format needs work. Please differentiate between content and ads. It’s confusing and feels tricky.

Too many commercials
I love this podcast but soooooooo many commercials.

Just discovered this podcast!
I am a veteran counselor of over 20 years and just stumbled upon this podcast. How refreshing! I love the authenticity of this podcast and author. In the world we live in, this is a succinct injection of applicable support and reality checks! Thanks so much!

LOVE this show
This show is really my favorite way to start my day. Love not only the short episodes, but hearing your conversations with Vanessa. Thank you for all you do!!

Jarring Commercials
Love the content and have no issues with commercials on podcasts but the way this one will cut to a commercial mid word is so jarring and unsettling I unsubscribed. His books and Instagram are still great and highly recommended.

End the tangent please
Love the podcast. Helpful and thoughtful. Do not mind the adds. However; I *cannot wait* for this tangent with your partner to be over. Please consider this as a separate podcast. I cannot get through a full episode when you’re both on together and is definitely not what I’m interested in (your relationship).
kelseyraerob
Jump to 4:00 every episode.
Skip all the ads. First 4 minutes are commercials. I love the dynamic between him and Vanessa.

I really want to like it
I really want to like this podcast. The content is pretty good and I appreciate his relaxed, “with you not at you” attitude, but the ads just kill my enjoyment. Not just at the beginning and end of the podcast, but spliced awkwardly in the middle, practically interrupting him mid-sentence. Sorry, John, there’s too much other good stuff out there to waste my time.

Hey John!
Hey John I hope you read this review. I been following you, hearing your podcast for a few years. In the beginning podcast was excellent, I’d listen to then almost after you uploaded them. Now half of the podcast are commercials and you easily deviate from content. What’s going on .? Please bring back the old way you created podcasts!
viancs1234
Like the content, don’t like the adds
As others have said in reviews, the ads disrupt the experience of the podcast. Great content and great sound quality, annoying ads.

too many ads now
I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few years now, and have learned some great things from John. Unfortunately, the ads have gotten a bit too much as of late. Unsubscribing and will just tune into John’s instagram.

Love the content but cut some ads
I love the books and I’m huge fan of the content within these podcasts, but the amount of ads just ruins wanting to listen to these short episodes.
R-Fern
The audio is horrible
I heard about the podcast on Today in PA and downloaded one episode. I thought the content was good information but the audio is horrible. I understand you have adverts but they are quieter or louder than the content. Please get a good microphone, use an audio app to mix your content, and check the levels.

What happened?
These great “therapy in a shot glass” episodes are now all commercials, no longer worth listening to. I’ll read the next book :)

Way to many advertisements
I like this podcast and the content, it has potential, but it’s SO annoying how many commercials he can put in 15 min podcast. Im unsubscribing it because it’s just not work it.

A Podcast of Commercials with Some Therapy
Listen, I love Jon and his books, but I can only stand to listen to the episodes entitled with subject matters I’m truly concerned about. Even then, I find myself fast forwarding through a lot of the runtime because it’s full of numerous commercials and plugs. No one wants to listen through 3-5 minutes worth of commercials just to get to the actual podcast, let alone additional commercials throughout. Yeah, your therapy is in a shot glass, but it dropped into a steins worth of commercial beer to make this podcast a boilermaker of bad listening.

Over 50% of the audio time is ads
At first I was confused that the description said it had “ten minutes of self help in a shot glass”, but a 26 minute runtime — that’s because the other 16 minutes is ads. Unless you really like having to micromanage that skip-forward button or love ads, give this one a pass.

Excuse to find sponsors
This podcast described as being short into the point is really just a platform for commercials.

All Ads
Too bad this podcast is substantially made of advertisements. I’m unimpressed
curious1961
Needs lots of improvement
Clicking the tongue, sipping, uh’s, baby coo’s don’t work in a podcast. Distracting and takes away from the message. The message has potential but not enough analysis to back it up. As others said the commercials are annoying
Benz Babe
What a mess
This is the most distracting podcast. Drinks, phones dropping, coughing, snacking.. and in between very “duh” advice … a bunch of ads. Out of 14 minutes you got half of that in ads. No thank you.
mIeleperla
Too many commercials
It’s actually a really great podcast. But the commercials! It wrecks the flow and he pitches nonstop. Dude! Stop.
04Heaven Slake
Way too many ads
Great content but its so hard to listen fluidly when it seems like half the episode is an ad!!
just a girl trying to rise!
So Helpful
Love listening to every episode you have. I love that it’s not too long and it dives into many topics we all struggle with day to day.

I started following the Angry Therapist on Instagram. Then I listened to his audiobooks. Now I listen to his podcast. I love what he brings to the table: his real life, unscripted style approach to our relationship with ourselves and others.
