Amber LeMay interviews a true gay power couple - actor Stephen Wallem and actor, choreographer and director Tony Humrichhouser.
Stephen Wallem is a SAG Award-nominated actor best known as Thor on the Emmy-winning Showtime series “Nurse Jackie”. He currently can be seen as Winston Robards on “The Resident” (Fox) and Rudy Syndergaard on NBC’s “Law and Order: SVU”. Other TV credits include “Difficult People,” “Divorce,” and “Horace and Pete”. Stephen made his feature film debut this past Valentine’s Day in the hit romantic comedy Marry Me starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson. East Coast stage appearances include Hazel in the Encores! production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Pipe Dream at New York City Center, Craig Carnelia’s world premiere Poster Boy (Williamstown Theatre Festival) and Anna Nicole (New York City Opera/BAM). Stephen accrued 2500 performances as both Jinx and Sparky in various companies of Forever Plaid including Chicago, Las Vegas, Denver, Drury Lane Oakbrook, and the first national tour. He is also an After Dark Award-winning cabaret artist in both Chicago and Manhattan, including A Burly Night Music at Birdland, Off the Wallem at Don’t Tell Mama, Schwartz and All at Birdland, the Sondheim Unplugged series at 54 Below and teaming with Edie Falco for the original cabaret The Other Steve and Edie at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. He reunited with Edie for Love Letters to benefit the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre. At The Muny in St.Louis, Stephen was seen as Shrek in Shrek the Musical, Horton in Seussical, and the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. For Farmers Alley Theatre, he starred as Max Bialystock in The Producers with fiancé Tony Humrichouser and as Buddy in Elf for Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts. He portrayed Judas/Padre in Court Theatre's acclaimed production of Man of La Mancha (Joseph Jefferson Award, After Dark Award) and reprised his performance at Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven. Stephen became a staple at the Ravinia Festival, appearing with Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald and Michael Cerveris in A Little Night Music, Passion, and Sunday in the Park with George, all directed by Lonny Price. National Tours include Forever Plaid, Into The Woods and Scrooge with Richard Chamberlain.
Tony Humrichouser is an award-winning actor, choreographer and director hailing from Detroit, Michigan. His performance credits include Jinx/Sparky in the Joseph Jefferson Awardwinning Chicago company of Forever Plaid, John Adams in 1776, Gabe in Dinner with Friends, Leo Bloom in The Producers and Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol at the Tony Award-winning Trinity Repertory Company. He most recently was seen as Bruce in Fun Home at the Farmers Alley Theatre, Tateh in Ragtime at the Wagon Wheel Theatre and Malcolm McGregor in The Full Monty at The Des Moines Playhouse. Regional credits include Oscar in Sweet Charity, Lumiere in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Harold Bride in Titanic, Applegate in Damn Yankees, Hornbeck in Inherit The Wind, Cornelius Hackle in Hello Dolly, Noah in The Rainmaker, Ben Gant in Look Homeward Angel, Otto Kringelein in Grand Hotel and Charlie in The Foreigner. Most recent New York production credits include assisting director Lonny Price on the New York Philharmonic's production of Company at Lincoln Center, Schwartz and All at the iconic Birdland and directing The Other Steve and Edie starring Edie Falco and Stephen Wallem at The Laurie Beechman Theatre. Mr. Humrichouser holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance from Western Michigan University and an M.F.A in Acting from Rhode Island College. He is a graduate of the Trinity Repertory Conservatory in Providence, RI and a member of the Actors Equity Association. He has severed as the Director of Musical Theatre programs at Drake University and the University of Missouri Kansas City's Conservatory of Music and currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre.
