GUESS WHO'S BACK? I disappeared but now I'm here and I'm not leaving. A hot mess episode of where I am now.

In focusing on Nicki Minaj, we want to discuss her impact on and overall contribution to hip hop as a culture and musical genre along with her artistry being sites of Black femininity in hip hop. With this, we hope that our podcast addresses the following research questions: How has Nicki Minaj changed the trajectory of women MCs in hip hop? Has she opened the door for more Black women to follow her lead? How has the treatment of Nicki Minaj representative of the unrealistic standards put on the bodies and actions of Black women in hip hop? NICKI MINAJ IS THE BLUEPRINT. Hip hop has been a relatively male-dominated musical genre and industry, and Nicki Minaj broke through many barriers to gain her rightful place as the queen in hip hop for our generation; her music and unique and extravagant style and character has been transformative. We want to effectively showcase this in our podcast along with clearly showing the way she had to navigate the industry is illustrative of the experience of many Black women rappers and artists in the past two decades, specifically the ways in which Black women have been stereotyped, misunderstood, along with suffering effects of racism and sexism within the hip hop industry and society, in more generally.

In this episode, we explore how we became attached at the hip and how we fell out, discuss our college experiences as we're moving into the real world, and we talk about the process of defining ourselves as Black people in this world.    I am going ham on my smartfood popcorn, so I am sincerely apologetic!
