Too much psychological analysis
Too academic for me with the pod being a purely analytical essay format on the psychology of characters, viewers, and theme. I do love those kinds of things, but when it’s just that, there’s no fun had in the listening experience for me. This is just my opinion.

Alternate takes
I don’t always agree with the takes, but I think the host presents some takes that I haven’t encountered elsewhere. I don’t dig the episodes where the “celebrity” guests have zero context and need the film spelled out to them.

Keep it coming JLB!
So glad you continued the pod. Rly appreciate your thorough work, prep, and your energy is infectious. Keep em coming bud and looking forward to live activations!

An Intellectual Deep Dive into Horror
I have been a listener since day 1. After the exit of Freddie Prinze Jr, Jon Lee Brody has completely evolved and elevated the podcast. I have a list on my Letterboxd account of films I would like to watch, and thanks to this podcast lots of hidden horror gems has been added. I have told so many people to listen to this podcast too. Highly recommend it if you are a horror newbie, casual fan, or horror enthusiasts.

So excited about this show!
I’ve been a TWPS listener from day one. I’ll miss Freddy but John’s knowledge and passion for horror makes for such an incredible and well thought out show. I’m so excited for these changes coming and looking forward to what’s next!

Great, but
I absolutely adore this pod! Does anyone know what happened to Freddie though? Loved their chemistry !

Such a good podcast
I love this podcast. I constantly learn something whether it’s a deep dive from Jon or a movie recap. I feel like this podcast makes me smarter and appreciate horror even more.

I miss Freddie
JLB spends too much time comparing the movie to other movies and name dropping directors of other movies. He lost me with his vague discussion of Weapons.

Thank you!
I made it! Thank you so much, what a thrill! I would love an episode on Double Double Toil and Trouble! And Munchie Strikes back- I thought that was a fever dream I had. What a blast from the past! Also Goosebumps was elite- the Haunted Mask was terrifying. Also, when I submitted this, I had no idea you would be doing the Halloween Tree, I love the accidental relevance. I love this podcast!

A TRUE MUST LISTEN!
This is a great podcast from the top to the bottom. A must listen across the board, especially for movie fans, horror fans, film fans, and you spooky season fans! Can not stress it enough, must listen! Content you can’t get enough of!

One of My Favorites!
I have been a fan from the very beginning! Freddie brought me here but Jon Lee Brody keeps me here. There are other horror movie pods out there giving reviews, but TWPS gives a completely unique point of view behind the scenes how they’re made and why the many production choices are made. Keep it up guys! I look forward to it each week!

Old fan and new fan!
I’m really loving the deep dives that Jon gets to do now! He has such a great perspective and helps you to see things in a more well rounded way, both from an industry perspective and fan point of view.
Okay, whatever
So Good!
JLB is the man. Anybody who puts some love and respect on Halloween 3 is a godsend to me. Keep it up!

No hate but……
I’m sorry to say this, but I like the podcast more now that Freddie has left. He always seemed to rush through every episode, which made me wonder why he was doing it if he seemed to have no time for it. I like listening to people speaking at a normal speed, which is what is now happening.

What happened to Freddie??
I really love this podcast, but it has changed since the beginning. I love John and his thoughts on all of the movies and behind the scenes things, but what happened to Freddie? Is he coming back? If it’s mentioned in episode, maybe put something out on social media, because I do tend to stop listening when I realize the episode isn’t what it was in the beginning. I loved when Freddie and John would go through the movie and give their thoughts throughout.

Awesome podcast
Great podcast if you love horror movies. I love when you guys talk about what it took to do the scene.

Best podcast ever but I miss Freddie so much for the funny banter.
I love the discussion about the movies and all the fun banter between Freddie and John! Thank you for sharing your love of horror and all the good personal stories with us! Where is Freddie?? Used to be a lot more fun with both of them.

Here for the ride!
I’ve been a listener since the beginning and I have to admit, I love the way the show is pivoting! I always felt like Jon had so much more to say about the films, but there wasn’t enough time per episode so now he gets to really dive deep and give us the details we’re here for. I love the addition of Alex at the end! Excited to see where you guys take this!
Larsa_P
What has happened to Freddie?
I used to always make sure I listened to this podcast as soon as I got the next movie watched and loved hearing both of them talk about it. However lately it’s just been Jon Lee Brody doing deep dives or talking to directors. Where has Freddie gone, their banter is very much missed and I find myself not listening to these new episodes because it’s just not the same

Well Researched & Passionate
I really enjoy listening to Jon analyze and describe horror movies. As an English teacher, I can tell he’s taken the time to really research the movies on his pod. Looking forward to more movies as we head into spooky season!

This is the best podcast.

Number 1 scary movie podcast
Love this podcast! Really good episodes that sometimes take it a step further than just recapping a movie, they talk about the symbolism or overall impact this horror film had on the genre. Usually let the episodes pile up so Freddie and Jon can soothe me on a long car or plane ride.

Great show, they’re letting me review it again…
UPDATE 9/4/25: Dude, John, I’m totally lifting that wonderful rap you did on music for the SUD recovery groups I teach. The way you described how it affects the different parts of our brain and is a universal language will resonate with people early in recovery struggling for a higher power. That scene from Sinners (the spirits and ghosts jam-out) blew my mind and you put it to words brilliantly. …so 5 stars! Freddie is a Jedi knight in another life so he’s all good by me, and I looked up John Lee Brody and saw he grew up like 12 minutes from me (Chicago NW burbs). Not as funny as Werewolf Ambulance but not trying to be. Perfect for a quick hit with right amount of discussion and not like many other horror pods with people talking to hear themselves or forcing “chemistry”. The insider perspective is helpful / cool / unique compared to other shows too. Other film Suggestions off top of head: One Cut for the Dead DeadTectives Terrifier 2 Annabelle 2 Ouija 2 (Flanagan) Something is Wrong with the Children; Satanic Hispanic, Babysitter (either)

I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025
I’m looking forward to Jon and Freddie covering I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025.

My favorite horror pod BUT
This is my absolute favorite horror movie review pod. I love Jon, but what happened to Freddie?!

A fun and refreshing podcast
I really enjoy this podcast. The hosts have such a unique and refreshing perspective on the films they cover and it really makes you feel like you’re part of the conversation. Plus, it’s fun to get insider information from the hosts. I like to watch the movies i haven’t yet and then listen to the podcast episode. I think you should cover Bag Head (2023)

Great movie synopsis pod
I love a good movie synopsis pod, and these guys do a great job. Very thorough and provides fun commentary in between.

Good Breakdown
I enjoy the breakdown very much. But 2 things could make it better. They should assume if you’re listening you’ve watched especially since they give us the title of their next discussion in advance. So they should go ahead with all spoilers. And sometimes they get to worried about whatever timeframe they want to keep and they rush through. Some movies deserve more time and not to get a rushed ending. I’d appreciate a bit more discussion at the end.

Love this podcast!
I love it and really appreciate the behind the scenes when Freddie has a personal connection to the movie. My only criticism is don’t speak too soon, don’t be afraid to pull up google before we state stuff because there was some misinfo here and there. Freddie was raving about Brandy’s performance in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and said that she got a show after her performance in this movie and she hasn’t acted before when she did several things before this and Moesha premiered in 1996 years before this film. That could have been fact checked. But the vibe is friendly chat mixed with inside info and I appreciate the laid back and genuine vibe I get. Overall a fun insightful podcast, most info given seems on point, but even though it’s not taking itself too seriously it’s good to do an extra double check here and there!

That was pretty great!
I've really been enjoying their analysis and personal stories about these films (and literally any mention at all of SMG), and they're also funny and charming. Can't wait to eventually hear their thoughts on Sinners, Doctor Sleep (give me all the Flanagan all the time!), and Midsommar 🫣

Great Movie Recs
I love this podcast! We recently took their rec on Strange Darling and went in blind - what an amazing film I might never have heard about otherwise. My request is a review of Absentia, the only Mike Flanagan I haven't seen yet.

5 stars from this horror wimp!
Generally speaking, I am a huge wimp when it comes to horror movies. That Was Pretty Scary has made me find a new found love of all things scary! FPJ and JLB summarize each movie from an artful perspective. I love getting insight on how a director might think when setting a scene for a film. If I’ve never seen the movie reviewed, I instantly want to watch it and those I have seen, get a rewatch! I can’t wait for the start of season 3, hopefully they will review some of my A24 favorites like Midsommar or Hereditary.

Generations of Entertainment
My son and I listen to your That Was Pretty Scary podcast every Wednesday after his return from school. It has been so nostalgic as it feels like the older generation of listening to a story via radio waves. We have made so many memories sharing your enthusiasm for horror films. It’s been a much needed break from the screen time and we love the audio critical analysis and informative insight to the film industry. My favorite is the action sequence descriptions from Freddie and the banter back from the quit wit of Jon Lee Brody. That brings so much joy and laughter to the story. Sometimes it’s better than the movie (just sayin’ with much love and respect). The experience brings me back to listening to audio thrillers on cassette tape like “Suspense” with my Grandpa Joe. It makes the imagination pop! I too am a 80’s -90’s kid, so I can relate to so much that Freddie shares and I even grew up watching him and Sarah Michelle as I was their age. My two college aged girls are forever Buffy fans! Me I was a “I know what you did” fan even read the book and had the soundtrack, lol, not kidding! Huge Scream fan, too, and my daughter is named Sidney. She loves the backstory too. Sidney Prescott was a powerful character. As a daughter of a big movie family, I was raised with movie trivia by our younger uncle (more like a brother) who was a mega horror fan. RIP Uncle Dewayne. He had us watching the B stuff, too! he’d await patiently for from Aardvark video. When you share your personal anecdotes of going to the movie store or sleepover it brings me back to mine as well. Another opportunity to bond with my son about those experiences that were buried by the mundane. There have been so many hidden gems of films I found I missed like Chopping Mall and somehow Poltergeist (I don’t know how) and was able to make fun memories with these movie nights with the family. We can also bring some interesting insider knowledge after listening to the excellent recap. I know it’s the longest review ever but you have something here! I have shared your podcast with so many people and can’t wait for another season! Thank you to all who create this podcast for us to enjoy! Appreciate you!

Five Gleaming Hooks
Found these guys not by being a horror fan, but by being a corgi fan (Shout out to sweet angel Shelby!). However, this show has been a great way to get insights into movies that are too scary for me, but that my friends love. FPJ’s humor and Movie Guy Voice are entertaining, with JLB’s knowledge on how the films were created make this show fun for any cinephile. The hosts’ passion for horror movies comes through well, plus it feels like I’m just hanging out with friends. Will def keep this in my podcast rotation. My request to add to the library is something by my cousin, Annie Ilonzeh. She’s done a handful of horror movies! (:

Fantastic Hosts!
I love this podcast so much! I started listening over a year ago when Ash & Alaina casually mentioned Freddie had a horror movie podcast on their network. It is so cool to hear all the behind the scenes industry info these guys have! I’m almost finished with the back catalogue and can’t wait for new episodes.

Great podcast
Found this podcast about a week ago and haven’t stopped listening. Been trying to find a horror movie podcast for a while, and I finally found you guys. Love that you guys never bash a movie, the filmaker, actor etc. it’s all love and appreciation for the film. You guys always find the positive in movies whereas others just love to hate, it’s refreshing! I love hearing Freddie’s stories about his experience in the movie industry and enjoy all of Jons knowledge of the movies you guys watch. Would be ecstatic if you guys were to watch and talk about one of my favorite horror movie John Carpenters “The Thing”. Keep it up guys!

Binge worthy podcast!
This podcast is my current obsession! I’m binge listening and I’m loving the insight on these movies. Some I’ve never heard, but watched because of you.

Absolutely Love These Guys
I’ve loved FPJ since I Know What You Did Last Summer so I had to check out this podcast since he is a part of it (and because of my Morbid girlies) but this podcast is so much fun! FPJ and Jon break down the movies in such a fun way! Love finding and watching the movies they cover that I have never heard of too! If you love horror and love to laugh then this is a podcast you need to follow and listen to 100%! Much love to you Freddie and Jon!

I absolutely love this podcast! I look forward to new episodes and listen to them right away. I love foreign horror movies, especially Korean and Japanese classics, and it’s awesome to see those covered on a podcast! I’m loving your recent discussions about Giallo films too, Argento is another favorite of mine. It would be AWESOME if you guys watched the original Suspiria, it’s the film that turned me on to horror. Thanks for doing an amazing job guys! Please please pleaseeee watch The Ritual on Netflix and cover it!! It seems like the kind of film you’d both love, and I’d love to hear your takes!

Love your Podcast
Just discovered this pod and I’ve already listened to so many episodes. I love horror movies. Freddie’s descriptions are so funny. My one suggestion for a horror movie to cover is Vivarium.

Not A Better Podcast
Freddie and John are the best narrators. This podcast is untouchable in my opinion. I would love two episodes a week. There hasn’t been a bad episode yet.
