Jan Heine, the editor of Bicycle Quarterly, discusses bikes that plane. According to Jan, "These bikes get in sync with our pedal strokes and are easier to pedal long distances. The range of useful cadences is wider on these bikes, making them easier to accelerate." The concept is not new, but Jan has examined it in new ways. Planing -- a goal every rider would like to achieve.
