Tali’s Journal 3 - Breaking the Impossibles: First Time Out since Lockdown
Since March 18th when the compound was under lockdown, I finally walked outside of the compound on May the 4th. But today we are told no one is allowed to leave the compound again. I asked myself: when will this lockdown end? It seems that this question is not that important anymore. People always tell themselves a lot of impossibles, but keep breaking these impossibles. So just as a quote says: “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’.” Instagram@taste_tea_taste_life Email: [email protected]

5. Tea Growing Regions 2 - Oolong Tea
Welcome to Taste Tea. Previously, we talked about the growing regions of Green tea, yellow tea and white tea. Just in time, Taste Tea Podcast received a question from a listener from Germany. This listener shared that he likes oolong tea and hopes to get some recommendations about oolong teas. When I heard this question, I was very excited, so I shared 4 types of oolong teas with him. In this episode, I will elaborate on the answer I had for this listener and introduce the growing areas of oolong tea and its distinctive tea varieties. Without further ado, let’s start this journey of tea tasting. According to the growing origins, oolong teas can be divided into: Northern Fujian oolong (闽北乌龙茶), Southern Fujian oolong (闽南乌龙茶), Guangdong oolong (广东乌龙茶) and Taiwan oolong (台湾乌龙茶), of these, oolong tea from Fujian has the largest production.  For more detailed information, please refer to the shared notes below:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tfJwvFAYxfGMWSNx-JUBmw4iDbtMqqZ-R78wiSk2UcQ/edit?usp=sharing  Reference links:  Northern Fujian oolong:  https://www.puretaiwantea.com/china-wuyi-narcissus-oolong-tea  https://www.teavivre.com/info/four-famous-firs-of-wuyi.html  Southern Fujian Oolong:  https://www.puercn.com/wulongcha/zhishi/159429.html  https://www.puer10000.com/chalei/123596.html  Guangdong Oolong:  https://www.163.com/dy/article/GLKD5N1J0552HOHQ.html  https://serenetea-cha.com/blogs/news/what-is-phoenix-dan-cong-oolong-tea  Taiwan Oolong:  https://www.puercn.com/zhishi/44163/  Instagram@taste_tea_taste_life  Email: [email protected]

4. Tea Growing Regions 1
This episode will introduce the famous tea varieties and their growing regions in Green tea, Yellow tea and White tea. Without further ado, let’s get into it! Green tea: There are many regions growing and producing Green tea including Zhejiang, Guizhou, Henan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Fujian, etc. The following is a brief introduction to the three types of famous green teas in China and their growing origins. Longjing Tea/ Dragon Well tea (龙井茶): It is widely cultivated in Zhejiang province, and mainly has three growing areas, West Lake, Qiantang and Yuezhou, but the tea grows and processes in West Lake area still has the highest quality of all. According to the record from Hangzhou Xihu Longjing Tea Industry Association, except for the tea cultivated within the 168 square kilometers of West Lake production area that can be called West Lake Longjing; the tea growing in other two areas, Qiangtang and Yuezhou, are commonly known as Zhejiang Longjing tea or Qiantang Longjing and Yuezhou Longjing. Other two well-known green teas are, Xinyang Maojian (信阳毛尖), mainly produced in Xinyang city of Henan province, and Biluochun (碧螺春), mainly produced in East Dongting Mountain and West Dongting Mountain in Wuzhong District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, so it is also called Dongting Biluochun (洞庭碧螺春). Yellow tea: The six major producing areas of Yellow tea are Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Anhui, Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces. Among them, Hunan province is known as the "Hometown of Yellow Tea in China". Famous yellow teas include Junshan Silver Needle (君山银针) from Junshan Island at Dongting Lake, Hunan Province, Mengding Huangya (蒙顶黄芽) from Mengding Mountain in Ya'an City of Sichuan Province, and Huoshan Huangya (霍山黄芽) from Huoshan County of Anhui Province. White tea: There is a saying: “World's white tea is in China, and China's white tea is in Fujian.” Yes, Chinese white tea is mainly cultivated in Fuding, Zhenghe, Jianyang, Songxi and other counties in Fujian Province; Taiwan also produces some white tea locally. Some famous white tea varieties are Baihao Yinzhen aka White Hair Silver Needle (白毫银针) from Fuding, and White Peony (白牡丹) and Gongmei (贡眉) from Jianyang. I love tasting white teas and have always wanted to visit Fuding, so, in 2020, I went to this place. After trying several teas, I picked one and mailed the white tea cakes to my family, friends and coworkers to taste it together. Fuding is not a busy city, rather a small town. Not as sophisticated as the people living in the big cities, you could feel the simple and kind connection among the local people. After hearing all these places mentioned in this episode, do you also feel like to go to a tea field and breath some fresh air? Then start planning for the trip, and when the time has come, you are ready to go. It is such a lovely and exciting thing just by having the thought of it. There are also reference links in the show notes for you to take a look if you would like to learn more about this topic. Looking forward to the next we when we are tasting tea and tasting life together. See ya next time.
