This month our resident Tiger Tamers, Ross Abbott & Ellice Whyte, are joined by the amazing Alice Hendy, Founder & CEO of R;pple.Here is an introduction to our brilliant guest...Alice lost her only sibling, her brother Josh, on 25th November 2020 to suicide at 21 years old. She speaks so eloquently and with such power on mental health, suicide, bereavement, and the signs to look out for to provide hope to our loved ones in their darkest hour. Her presentation delivery is incredible, from the heart, real, professional, passionate, relevant, informative, and impressive. Alice’s brother Josh had been researching techniques to take his own life via harmful internet searches. To ensure more help and support is given to individuals searching for harmful content online, Alice set up her own charity called R;pple; a digital tool, which is a user searches for harmful content online, they will first be guided through a filter of breathing exercises and then very simple, uncluttered and calmly presented strategies and forums, helplines and mental health services they can access both now and in the longer term, accompanied with messages of hope and encouragement to keep safe. R;pple has been downloaded millions of times around the world, continues to intercept thousands of harmful online searches and has saved countless lives from suicide. This month our resident Tiger Tamers, Ross Abbott & Ellice Whyte, are joined by the inspirational Brian Wood MC, Veteran, Owner of Keep Attacking & Sunday Times Best Selling Author.Here is an introduction to our brilliant guest...At the age of 23, Brian was thrust into the front line in Iraq, in the infamous Battle of Danny Boy. Ambushed, he led a charge across open ground with insurgents firing at just five soldiers. On his return, he was awarded the Military Cross by Queen Elizabeth II.But Brian's story had only just begun. Struggling to re-integrate into family life, he suffered from PTSD. Then, five years later, a letter arrived: it summoned him to give evidence at the Al-Sweady Inquiry into allegations of war crimes by British soldiers during the Iraq invasion of 2003.After years of public shame, Brian took the stand and delivered a powerful testimony, and following the tense inquiry room scenes, justice was finally served.Phil Shiner, the lawyer who made the false accusations, was struck off and stripped of an honorary doctorate. Brian wrote his story Double Crossed: A Code of Honour, A Complete Betrayal - which became a Sunday Times Bestseller and it was commissioned for a BBC 90-minute dramatisation, Danny Boy. Simon Blake OBE, joins us on Taming the Tiger (they do say go big or go home... and we definitely went big for the first ever guest). Now, an introduction is in order for our guest...Simon Blake OBE joined MHFA England as Chief Executive in October 2018, leading the social enterprise to achieve its vision of normalising society’s attitudes and behaviours around mental health, through training one in ten of the population. He has been instrumental in leading MHFA England’s commitment to become a truly anti-racist social enterprise. He Chairs the Dying Matters Campaign and the Support after Suicide Partnership. Prior to this he has held a number of trustee and Chair positions over the last two decades including Compact Voice, Black Health Agency, Diversity Role Models and Stonewall. In 2020 he was named as a Global Diversity Leader and in 2021, on the 2021 Pride Power List. He is a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute was awarded an OBE for services to the voluntary sector and young people.
