Acts 11:27-30 When people say, “God told me to do this . .. .” what is your first thought? Does it make you leery? In the early church, the Counselor, the Holy Spirit directed God’s people in very specific ways, often through prophets. Agabus was a prophet in the tradition of Elijah and Jeremiah who heard a message from God and spoke it to his people. Even more interesting than his prediction of a famine in the Roman world is the response of God’s people to the news. When we keep in step with the Spirit he will tell us what we need to know and lead us to respond. If God tells you to do something today, will you do it?
