– Jesus preaches the Sermon on the Mount, inviting us to transcend some aspects of the Law of Moses and to become Celestial people.
– In the Beatitudes found in Matthew 5.1-11, the Greek word, makarioi, is translated as “blessed.” Another translation of makarioi can denote “being in the state of the gods.”
– The Sermon on the Mount can be seen as a temple text that includes the 5 covenants in the temple endowment: The Law of Obedience, The Law of Sacrifice, The Law of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, The Law of Chastity, and The Law of Consecration.
– Jesus teaches a more holy way to approach the Mosaic command to not kill.
– Jesus teaches a more holy way to approach the prohibition of adultery.
– Jesus teaches a more holy way to approach divorce.
– Jesus teaches us to keep our promises and to honor our covenants and commitments.
– Jesus teaches us to “turn the other cheek.”
– Jesus teaches us to love our enemies.
– By following and trusting The Savior, we will become perfect, or finished.
