The story, the characters, the cultures, the action and intrigue are all wonderful. When the author reads it they all come alive. The characters voices are so charmingly distinct I know who is speaking before the narrator tells us. The story does address racism but never glorifies it or wallows in it. Treat yourself to an engulfing tale of magic adventure and swashbuckling on the high seas! I have just dove overboard for at least my 6th journey to the Frees, join us won’t you?

I listened to book one in two days and I'm excited for book two. The narrator does a great job and it's a fun, engaging story and world.

I started the first episode and was hooked almost immediately by the writing and the narrator's skill. Do yourself a favor and check this one out. You won't be disappointed.

Book 1 is great, book 2 is better!

John, thank you for recording your books as audio podcasts. I came to this from your reading of The Secret of Calling Rabbits on Podcastle recently. You have created an interesting world and can not only create good fiction, but indeed have a talent for voice work. Again, thank you for doing this. Everyone subscribe and go out and find a way to support John here (buying the e-book?). Right on, looking forward to getting caught up on the series.

I couldn't be happier with my subscription to this fun, engrossing series! If pirates, adventure, international intrigue and magic are your thing, you're in the right place. I fell in love with the lighthearted way this story is depicted, and I really enjoy the depth that unfolds by the end of Book One. Book Two is already meeting and exceeding my expectations.. Can't wait to hear more!

This is the type of story where the characters immediately endeared themselves to me. It was exciting and interesting. I'm so happy there's a book 2!
