We are back together in person and recording from an actual cocktail bar!!! Because we find ourselves in sunny San Diego, Rachel came up with the idea to form a beach playlist featuring one song from each Taylor Swift album. We take turns debating and stealing songs from each other that fit the vibe. Did we get it right? Let us know! Our song of the week follows Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce getting married at Madison Square Garden, so we naturally reflect on how Taylor has matured in her confidence as a celebrity. She looks to other stars before her like Britney Spears, Joni Mitchell, and Stevie Nicks as inspiration for this song. Of course, Taylor has covered this topic several times throughout her discography, but The Lucky One marks one of the earliest times we've heard her reflect on her level of fame and what lessons she was learning at the time of writing this song. Taylor and Travis are married!!!!!! Of course, we just had to talk about it, and boy are we excited and a little confused by it all. Also, it's Sam's birthday! So naturally we had to choose his namesake song to discuss for this week. Kind of a sad song to be doing on an otherwise joyous week, but it's one of the best off TTPD and reveals a lot of truth behind what Taylor was thinking once she ruined the friendship with a certain English bloke. Well, well, well, the month of July is here which takes us to the Lover album! Rachel has rehearsed the bridge to this song for weeks and she finally has her moment to shine in this episode!! But first, we absolutely had to discuss the iconic night that Taylor Swift was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, becoming the youngest woman IN HISTORY to acheive this honor! We also have an entire discussion on TS 13 and what our hopes and dreams are for the next album! Olivia Rodrigo is without a doubt our new shit of the week, and no surprise, Rachel cries. This album is so good though! Death By A Thousand Cuts is a very curious song, both in its production and its lore. Taylor writes from a hypothetical perspective, having been inspired by a movie she saw that includes memories and flashbacks of a profound relationship within New York City. It's the perfect inspiration for Taylor pondering what might happen if she never walked Cornelia Street again....Share with us your thoughts on today's episode by sending an email to [email protected].Leave us a written review on the Apple Podcasts app!Follow and rate our podcast on Spotify! It's a *Tay Story* and baby we just said YES!!! We are absolutely loving the Toy Story/Taylor Swift crossover, and the song for the new film is a dream! When worlds collide like this, we are left feeling blessed, seen, and utterly satisfied. We also have a discussion on how we just know Debut (Taylor's Version) will be coming out this year; the coming home imagery of "I Knew It, I Knew You," the 20th anniversary, the easter eggs.....it's definitely happening, right?! We also have a considerate discussion about the rumors that Taylor and Travis are getting married at Madison Square Garden. It's weird, but also kind of sensible. Tell us what you guys think! As we welcome in the 6th month of the year, our song this week is brought to us by the 6th album REPUTATION! Sam was delighted to have the honor to choose a song from his favorite album, and what better selection than one of the most iconic from the album and an absolute powerhouse of a song. Taylor doesn't so much "clap back" at the media in this song, but presents a defense as to her behavior and why she is who she is. She also might be struggling with a drug addiction, but she's unapologetic and confident and LORD SAVE US Taylor Swift made us crazy. If she doesn't make you crazy then you just ain't doing it right....Share with us your thoughts on today's episode by sending an email to [email protected].Leave us a written review on the Apple Podcasts app!Follow and rate our podcast on Spotify! Oh goddamn! This stunning song is one of Taylor's best examples of poetic imagery, storytelling, and escapism. We couldn't help but wonder if Taylor was projecting herself into the narrator's point of view, or if she was inspired by historical figures of years ago. It was also challenging to discern whether or not the narrator in this song is happy and relieved for the "ivy," or if she's cursing it. One thing was certain for the both of us: it's a deeply profound and absolutely beautiful song. So yeah, it's a fire, it's the goddamn song of our life and Taylor started it! This is THE song from The Life of a Showgirl! It's the album opener, the first single, and the biggest song of Taylor Swift's career! She digs back into her fairytale roots a little bit, while re-imagining a classic Shakespeare tale, just like she did in Love Story. Speaking of "story," Toy Story comes up quite a few times in this episode. What was with that mysterious countdown that disappeared? And the TnT of it all?! Sam is exhausted from but excited about opening up a new cocktail bar in California, and Rachel brings baseball into the conversation when revealing which song she's chosen for the next episode. It's all so good!Share with us your thoughts on today's episode by sending an email to [email protected].Leave us a written review on the Apple Podcasts app!Follow and rate our podcast on Spotify! We're a bit scattered in this episode for many reasons. One, we recorded this on April 29th! Two, Taylor Swift had an EPIC interview with NYT Magazine that we could not wait to discuss! Three, we really wanted to play a game of "Guess That Taylor Swift Acronym!" Four, Noah Kahan released a deeply emotional album that we can't get enough of. And FIVE, this track FIVE from 1989 had us laughing, cheering, and pondering. Hard to believe we've already covered so many track fives on this pod, with still so many (we hope) to come!Share with us your thoughts on today's episode by sending an email to [email protected].Leave us a written review on the Apple Podcasts app!Follow and rate our podcast on Spotify! We’re excited to wish Rachel a happy birthday on this episode, and to also welcome her back from her epic trip to England and Scotland! SHE WENT TO THE BLACK DOG! Spoiler alert: it wasn’t shitty. Then Sam catches her up on all the things she missed while she was away: album announcements, new music and music videos, Taylor and Travis at awards shows, and an inspiring story of Swifties in outer space! The song of the week had us really reflecting on the power of Taylor’s ability to tell a story and keep the listener engaged in the album. But certain lyrics in this song had both of us sibs really wondering what she meant. It’s an epic opening track and one of the most important ones of the entire Red album. This episode is all about Taylor's love for London and the boys that come from there, but it's also a fun highlight for Rachel as she embarks on a two-week trip across the pond! She fills is in on her travel itinerary and best believe she'll be visiting some of the iconic places mentioned in today's song. Meanwhile, Sam shares an update on Taylor Swift appearing in his dreams, and the brilliant tie-in with Of Mice and Men. We share the music we've been listening to as of late before diving in to the song of the week: London Boy! There is certainly a deal of criticism this song receives, and rightfully so, but it's ultimately so very fun. And Rachel gets an opportunity to share her travel plans and fill us in on these iconic London landmarks! Sam's been wanting to discuss this song since this podcast began! In his words, "Dress" is a groundbreaking achievement in Taylor Swift's career, and we are HERE FOR IT! But first, we have ourselves a little discussion about the Oscars and Taylor Swift's possible feature film writing and directing debut. When exactly is that film going to happen? Has it been derailed? The sibs each present nearly opposite styles of cocktails today, but each are fitting for their respective titles pulled from the lyrics of this sensual song that we both agree is simply one of Taylor's best.
