The Deion Sanders era at Jackson State got off to an unusual start due to the season starting in the Spring. The Tigers jumped to a 3-0 start but finished the season on the field with 3 straight losses. There were some bright spots but there were also some things that needed to be worked on. The Grambling State Tigers certainly had a season they would love to forget, where to start? First they lost two offensive coordinators, Second their starting QB entered the transfer portal midseason, Third their season was damaged by Covid issues and finally they didn't win a game. The Hornets returned to the field in 2021 and had a typical Alabama State season, they finished 3-3. They did find their future at quarterback in Ryan Nettles and Ezra Gray had a huge game on TV against Jackson State. Their defense kept them in games but their lack of consistency on offense and special teams kept them from taking the next step.
