On this solo episode, Heather explains the characteristics of an abusive relationship and the warning signs you can look for to identify them.
Characteristics of an Abuse:
- An abuser is going to try to control anything and everything.
- An abuser will try to convince you that you never do anything right.
- An abuser will exhibit extreme jealousy.
- An abuser will alienate you from your family.
- There will be a cycle of apologies and repeat actions.
- An abuser will play the victim.
- An abuser controls the finances – often putting you on a closely monitored allowance.
- An abuser will typically constantly bother you about where you are or who you are with.
- An abuser will often physically restrain you during arguments.
- Sometimes, an abuser will force you to use drugs/alcohol.
