I love this one! One of my favorites!

Ads make it sound like a dive into history, but it’s a lot of horror fiction stories based on the loose theme of the week. It’s not to my taste, and though the production value is solid, I wouldn’t say the stories are the best written either :[ I’d have been more receptive if the advertisements I heard on other podcasts were accurate! An anthology horror fiction podcast? A better sell than “not actually about history”.

Just a podcast like morbid (my mums favorite) crime junky etc.🍑 this one is my favorite.

After hearing ads for this pod on other podcasts I thought I’d check it out. I thought it would be more in the historical vein but it appears to be a fiction podcast. 3 stars because the stories aren’t bad, but I’m not sure how the advertisements for this pod match up to the actual content in Parcast’s mind.

I’m not interested in the subject matter of this podcast ~at all~ but i’ve subscribed and listened to it for months, mostly because of Alastair Murden’s buttery voice. I’d listen to him read the ingredients of a shampoo bottle. He’s that good. But the podcast format is weird to me. Here’s a superstition, and now here’s a fictional story about somebody who got messed up from said superstition. No history or background of the topics really. But eh. Who cares, Alastair Murden’s voice is worth it.

Like many of the viewers here I too thought it would be more non-fiction and delve into the history of how superstitions emerged. It’s fine if you are looking for a fun story!

I love the stories that go with the superstitions. I end up stopping everything I am doing to listen to the story. Keep it up!

Very misleading ads, it was more story telling of fiction stories that didn’t talk much about the history of anything. The stories were okay but was giving it a listen for the history of things not a random story.

Like many people I was mislead by vague advertising however, it is an interesting style I’ve never seen on any other podcasts. Overall, not what I thought, but the fictional horror-ish and fiction almost seems realistic.

I heard ads for this on other podcasts and it sounded really interesting. The ads promised to delve into the history of superstitions and why cultures seem to have similar superstitions. Instead it appears to be melodramatic fictional stories with superstitions as the theme. Not what I expected.

I love this podcast, it is a spooky and ,also, funny and relatable. Alastair does a lovely job on this podcast.

Ive only heard one episode but it was about the Poltergeist curse. the bulk of the story was about a supposed "attempted remake" in which an actress named only as "Megan" dies on set. i looked this up online for more information but it turns out it's all fiction. they made up a story out of whole cloth and presented it as true. It also said the girl who was to play Carol Ann was a girl named "Zoe" who had her own youtube show called toyz, "with a z" it said. this is also fiction, i could not find any youtube channel that matches that description. Shame on them for writing a fictional story about a non fiction subject

The superstitions are cool and I like the host, but there’s so much more time allotted for the often cheesy fake stories than for the actual history of the superstitions. I tried to stick it out, but will be unsubscribing.

This podcast is good for any age who wants to be spooked I’ve been looking for a podcast that is kinda scary and good for younger ages and I’ve found it right here. Also the narrator is really good I LOVE ❤️ this podcast. This podcast is also good for adults who wanna be scared but not a lot.

His voice is beautiful and perfect y for narrating So no one else could possibly match or be up to his level to do it. Also adding one would be ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!

I absolutely loved the story on Macbeth. Hearing a British actor speak the lines was just wonderful. I also adored your love story with Naomi. Congratulations

I absolutely love these macabre stories! Some of the writing reminds me of Shirley Jackson, one of my favorite authors. I have noticed a more happily ever after tone to the second season - I actually prefer the morbidity and suspense of the first season! P.S. to all the people disappointed that the stories are “fake” haven’t you ever read fiction??

Really neat podcast. Great with a lunch break. I wish the person who did the commercials was different. It’s quite a jarring effect when her voice comes on compared to the host.

I love the host, and I like the idea of learning about the history of superstitions. But the stories are just too cheesy. I listened to this for a few weeks, then got tired of it. Maybe if it were real unexplained stories or situations, it would be okay. I get that there's not enough historical information to stretch into an entire episode, but this isn't my favorite way to pad it.

The superstitions are great... but this guy tells fake stories?! Not great for parcast

I’d rather they just explain the superstition and it’s origins rather than tell some fictional story.

This podcast is fun each superstition includes a story that explains more of the chosen superstition. I enjoy a lot I look forward to each episode.

Not so good. I’m sad about it. No history about superstitions and the stories, why? And the hosts accent, annoying.

If you like hearing long winded made up stories that vaguely relate to a superstition then this is for you. If you want information then look elsewhere.

I don’t understand why they tell these fictional stories instead of focusing on history of superstitions.

I was kinda excited about this pod when I heard about it. But when I listened, I wasn’t as excited as I was when I first heard about it.

The fictional story made me cringe. The roommate cracked a joke regarding an attempted rape and murder? Neither woman called the police afterwards? A falling horseshoe somehow was able to lethally embed its nails in a man’s head? smh. This is middle school-level thinking and writing.

Came here from conspiracy theories and cults so I was expecting to learn the history behind superstitions. The fictional stories are boring, predictable, and try way too hard.

I expected a historical breakdown of the lore for each superstition? Thinking it would be more factually based. The concept is fun, but I’m not a fan of the fictional short stories that make up the most of the podcast. The narrator is really good though.

This podcast is lovely. Well-made, sharp, great host. I was confused as to why it didn’t have straight 5-star ratings until I read some of the 1-stars. Turns out, some people read descriptions of podcasts before they listen to them! And if you’re just going off theirs, you might be disappointed. Maybe. I wasn’t, but I didn’t have any expectations going in. I guess some people really don’t like well-researched, well-told fictional stories, at least when they were expecting well-researched, well-told NONfictional stories. Which— okay! but that doesn’t mean the podcast is bad— it just isn’t what they were expecting. Makes me feel bad for Alistair, or whoever reads these. And you never know if ratings might actually decide the fate of a podcast, or a podcast host. Anyway. It’s a good podcast. I like it a lot. If anyone from Parcast is reading this, you might want to edit this podcast’s description. ♥️

Good podcast but it’s getting boring, i love it but it’s not the same. The first episode is the best, and i loved it got dry after that. So please make it more investing. Thanks

This is another great podcast from this storyteller. I love listening to his stories and different superstitions and his voice and interesting accent. I can’t get enough of this podcast as well as his others, please keep them coming.

I thought this would be completely different. The actual lore behind the superstitions would have been more interesting. But good effort, the host has a nice voice at least. Sorry

I really liked the narrative but the music was too distracting. It sounds like a commercial, I had to turn it off.

Good concept to go through superstition origins and things; unfortunately the execution of the concept is a dismal failure. The fictional stories really detract from the experience because, firstly because I have zero interest in fictional stories and secondly the quality of them is utterly horrid. And judging by a large number of reviews I’m glad to see I’m not alone in finding the stories to be the worst aspect of this podcast.

So it’s just all like fictional stories, or like...? The topics are real, but they go into these “scary stories to read in dark” type narratives, which we can all do without. Find the real stories! Also, I was deeply offended by the British host’s attempt at an American accent. That’s not what we sound like! Lol j/k, we do sound like that.

I can’t say much except this isn’t what I expected (diving into lore, thoroughly explaining) and instead fictional stories, but it’s very entertaining and I love listening to the episodes! They really illustrate a lot of the beliefs associated with the superstitions and in my opinion are a great way to convey them. I can’t wait for the next episode next Wednesday. Parcast usually does a great job, and this podcast is no exception—even though it’s a little unconventional.

I thought it would be more factual but there are long ridiculous stories for the majority of the podcast such as the one for black cats that in the end says “they didn’t see the 2 black cats walking away” to make one assume the little deaf girl turned into a cat.. well clearly whoever the narrator is wouldn’t know that unless they were God bc there’s no witnesses to most of the story. If you’re just going to tell silly stories, that’s not what I came for. I like the Supernatural podcast better. It’s similar, but more factual.

The point of the podcast is to have the lore broken down. Not a modern telling of someone meeting their doom. What in the world does a blasphemous story about a man transported to the Middle Ages have anything to do with walking under a ladder? I like the first few episodes, but I hope they find their way back to focusing on the lore.

“...said Martha.” I don’t need a fictionalization group of characters to understand the history behind superstitions. If I wanted that, I’d head to Audible for narrated books. Much more entertained by other parcast podcasts that shoot straight. Disappointed.
