At times, many of us think – if only I had a better job, I’d be happy. Or, if only I had more money, or was more successful, I’d be happy. Or even, if I had a more attentive spouse I’d be happy. But what if I told you that this thinking is backward, that most of us are putting the cart before the horse. That happiness is not just a by-product of success, but instead is a precursor to success. That happy people have the advantage. In this episode, I take a close look at the happiness advantage, unpack the neuroscience that explains the phenomenon, and provide some starting exercises to capitalise on this effect, both at home and at work.

In today's world, many of us at some point, in some area of our lives will feel lost. That we don't have clarity around what exactly we need to do to navigate our complex challenges. In this episode, I investigate this issue, by discussing the Cynefin model of problem-solving, by Dave Snowden. In short, complex problems are those that the world is indeed too uncertain or unknowable to plan an accurate route ahead. So, it IS understandable that you feel lost. The trick to approaching complex problems is to use safe-to-fail experiments, to explore what opportunities the world has to offer. Rather than "thinking our way forward" we need to "experiment our way forward" - have an idea of what might work and test our assumptions to see what works best in practice.

What if I told you that most of what you believe about happiness and mental wellbeing is simply not true. That happiness and success can't be found in simply doing things that bring you joy and avoiding things that bring you pain. What if I told you that the exact opposite was true. That true mental wellbeing and happiness comes from not suppressing unhappiness but embracing it.In this episode, I take a first look at ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) - one of the main evidence-based frameworks for living a full, rich and valued life.
