Fanon Flowers was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, exactly halfway between Detroit and Chicago, the birthplaces of techno and house music. A product of his environment, he grew up listening to Italian Disco, Chicago Acid House and Detroit Techno. At the age of 17, Fanon purchased his first synthesizer and drum machine and started buying dance 12" records. He soon developed a style which combined the funky, syncopated rhythms of techno with the soul of house music. He began to garner attention in 1994 when he appeared as Mode Selector on the "Elements of and Experiments with Sound" compilation on Detroit's seminal Planet E label. Subsequent EPs for such labels as Reference, Konsequent, Sheep, E-Com, and Holtzplatten established Flowers' reputation as a prominent American techno producer. In 1996, Fanon Flowers appeared under his Mode Selector alias on the "Detroit: Beyond the Third Wave" Compilation. Released on Astralwerks, Flowers appeared alongside Detroit techno stalwarts such as Claude Young, Ectomorph, Sean Deason, and Anthony "Shake" Shakir. That same year, Flowers started his own techno imprint, Mechanisms Industries (distributed by Triple Vision Holland), to showcase his unique and funky approach to techno. With over 40 records produced and released on various labels, Fanon Flowers embarked on several European Tours and One-off events playing in Slovakia, Spain, Belgium, Germany and England. Fanon Flowers also launched a new label in 2009 called Studio Sound (distributed by Crosstalk International Chicago). The label’s focus is Acid Techno and pure Detroit Techno and the first released is called the “Acid Kush EP” by Fanon Flowers. The second release called “Detroit-Chicago” was released in 2010. The year 2009 saw the release of Mechanisms Industries monster remix 12”of the legendary Hard minimal Techno track “Dom” by Obscurum originally released in 1997 on E-Com Records Germany. The remix 12” includes remixes by Spanish Techno producers Exium, Reeko and Fanon Flowers. In 2011 the latest project to be released on Mechanisms Industries called “Antikythera Mechanism”, showcases the depths of the Mechanisms sound. Also in 2011 were releases on Modularz, Reaktor and Sect Records (UK).

Nick Dunton - Leaving the planet __________________________________________ mixed by Tyler Smith recorded at the Alphaground studio (Lens / France) on 18th of August 2011. Duration :68"03 ___________________________________________ Bio: Back in the Day, Tyler Smith aka ‘Black Smith Craft’ discovered the unique sound of acid house and was immediately captured by the hypnotic vibe that emanated from the music during the end of the 1980’s.He found himself seduced & consumed by this wave of electronic music and fell in love with the German melodic trance style labels such as Eye-Q, Platipus and Superstition, as many of us did…Having followed dance music in all its forms throughout the 1990’s he started DJ’ing and by the turn of the millennium he started to develop a taste for the more underground techno sound which was coming out of England, Germany & especially the Detroit sound of the time…Tyler Smith had always wanted to be involved with radio broadcasts and this ambition kicked off in earnest when he started playing regularly on the ‘Tuesday Session’ show, broadcast on the very popular Campus FM (Villeneuve d’Ascq/France), which was run by Dmitri Pike of Mirage/Matrix/Subject Detroit fame. Spurred on by the development of increased exposure through radio he started honing his skills in music production and the ‘Alphaground’ website was born. This brought about more exposure for his music mission and by 2004 Tyler was performing on a number of key profile dance music stations in France and Holland. During 2006 he launched ‘Interstate 94’ show with Erell Ranson & Pedro Cali forHYPERLINK "http://Livesets.com" \t "_blank" Livesets.com, which was dedicated to the sound of Detroit. This was quickly followed by the aptly named ‘B-Side Show’ which showcased the darker, offbeat & industrial sounds. Currently the main man is managing different shows playing classics from way back, Detroit & Birmingham tunes onHYPERLINK "http://Livesets.com" \t "_blank" Livesets.com, Emergence FM (Limoges/France), andHYPERLINK "http://Techno.fm" \t "_blank" Techno.fm In 2006 Tyler’s finally realized the goal of having his debut vinyl release which was in collaboration with Bionic on French label ‘Audiocrash’. This was quickly followed by several upstanding digital releases. Over the years Tyler’s side to the music has become darker & more industrial, which in turn has led to the birth of his most acclaimed project: Black Smith Craft… With music released already on distinct labels from the scene and more on the way for labels including Grovskopa’s mighty ‘Pohjola’, Leeds finest ‘Limetree’, UTCH rec. & Rednox’ superb free net-label ‘Ante-Rasa’, the future is looking very bright…Since 2008, Tyler has played across Europe alongside artists like Kr!z, the 65d mavericks, Bas Mooy, DJ Toki, DJ Boss, Bionic, Dimitri Pike, Arrestar, Sean Matters, Systemic, Victor Martinez…More recently, he has created the ‘Technotherapy’ group on Soundcloud to keep the real techno spirit alive and promote both established and up and coming techno artists from around the world. He’s now hosting Ben Sims’ “Funk you” mix series in his radio shows every month through a partnership with the artist himself. Allan Nonamaka // Subsist Podcast 004 " From Sydney, Australia comes an unusual and menacing force that has yet to be tamed : Allan Nonamaka Comprised solely of a lust for the raw and vintage ideas in an ever changing genre, this artist has begun ravaging the landscapes with sounds of a repetitive and confused presence. At first glance it seems broken and dysfunctional. Ironically, that is just what Allan Nonamaka has aimed for since making his entrance. Giving support to his own and other respected artists work is his label Fervent Records.
