
Matthew Jamal, a New York-based composer, arranger, instrumentalist, and creative director, is known for his versatile style of playing and genre-bending compositions.
Matthew picked up the bass at age 11 and has since performed and worked alongside conductors Leonard Slatkin, Gerard Schwarz, and Mariss Jansons; pianist and composer Billy Childs; pianist, composer, arranger, and multi-genre recording artist Damien Sneed; jazz trombonist, arranger, and composer Wycliffe Gordon; acclaimed violinists Ezinma and Lee England Jr.; leading female DJ and presenter Natasha Diggs; and singer-songwriter and producer, Oyinda. He is a member of the Soulful Symphony, and the alternative/indie group Quiet Luke and the Lords. He has also scored short films and campaigns for brands like Gucci and Saucunny.
Since starting his modeling career in 2018, Matthew's list of clients includes Gucci, Abercrombie & Fitch, Zara, Nike, Converse, American Crew, and Barragán. He has shot with a wide range of photographers and directors including Boo George, Michael Avedon, Grant Legan, Peter Devito, and Phillip Youmans.
A Washington D.C Native, Matthew currently attends Manhattan School of Music. He studies Classical and Jazz double bass under Jeremy McCoy and Buster Williams. In 2020, he released his debut EP titled "Itinerant." It is available on all streaming platforms and for purchase on Bandcamp.
