How has this podcast survived?
You said you'kinda' liked Huey Long and hated Pres Trump. I don't like Pres Trump either but Huey Long was the socialist version of Trumpism.

Smart and funny
Just started listening and can't stop! So funny and informative.

Listening for years
They’re fun. They love each other. They’re informative. They’re women. Listen for a good time.

YASS! THEY ARE BACK!
I was so worried that they were gone for good.....so glad to see a new episode! OVERALL EDIT- STILL one of my all time favorites. Ignore the haters. So relatable. MY FAVORITE podcast, one that i have come to depend on for its hilarity. Even Kelly's interuptions don't bother me anymore because she is really such a sweet person. Its all worth it for the overall experience. Honestly this is one of many times in which I am glad I don't let bad reviews prevent me from a new fave. I was really instantly on board with these gals- i love their politics, their sarcasm, their command of the material. Great podcast and I am ready to binge now! Edit Two- Beth is freaking hilarious. She is the heart of the show. "Drenching semen on everything" is one sentence that had me laughing out loud. She just drops these phrases.
And Kelly- She provides some sweetness to Beth's hilarious cynicism. She brings the mom energy and her chemistry with Beth is great.

The perfect podcast for anyone with humor
Are you tired of podcast dude bros that sit around and share conspiracy theories that harm minorities? Have you sat halfway through a podcast and had to turn it off because it started going into right wing territory? Well good news to you for this podcast has none of those things! Beth and Kelly always have a good story to tell and always support it with facts (if you’re a Tr*mp supporter then you’ll think they’re part of the deep state). Each episode will have you bust out laughing and even one episode about a ghost family had me on edge. They’re great storytellers with a lesson in each story and a solid business plan (DEF Truck). Here’s to hoping for many more years of these two (insert champagne bottle emoji)

Love it!
Friends suggested this to me when I needed a Podcast to listen to while my eyes were recovering from LASIK surgery. Suggested topic: Wordfreak by Stefan Fatsis. It’s about competitive Scrabble and coverage of the World Scrabble Championship.

Annoying co-host
Kelly’s constant interruption is so annoying. So hard to listen.

Why bother??
Proof that not everyone should do a podcast. Just constant interruptions and going off on tangents and unrelated topics. Listened to 3 episodes and took nothing away from the stories because it takes 10 minutes to make one declarative statement. The host attempts to explain a bit but that co-host is constantly perplexed by what is going on. And they are only funny to each other.

Meh
Found this while searching for Tania Head; the first nine minutes is preaching about masks in 2021 and then when the topic starts they can’t remember how many floors were on the wtc..i feel like so many true crime podcasts do the absolute bare minimum of Wikipedia style reading for two minutes before they record without even taking notes just for money and it shows. Also Beth you are not a comic but nice try.

I want to love it
I’m 10 episodes in and I want to love it. Beth is so well researched and her voice is calming. It’s hard to listen to with Kelly’s CONSTANT interruption and side tracking. I want to keep listening because it’s informative and fun but I legitimately want to throw my phone at the wall. Maybe I’ll check out some later episodes and see if it gets better.

A good start
I evaluate every new podcast I listen to by their show on Jeffrey MacDonald. This one passed, albeit with too many interruptions for ease of listening. When there’s too many voices or one talks over another I tend to tune the podcast out or get irritated and go on to another. This was just on the brink.
In part 1 nailed MacDonald for his overcompensating, lying, narcissistic, sleazy behaviors with refreshing wit & humor instead of excusing, dismissing, or ignoring it altogether. On to part 2 tomorrow.

Too much liberal crap
A Podcast like this definitely has a place, but the hosts keep injecting extra stuff from bad world views.

Charming, entertaining, informative
There’s a good vibe here. And the stories are weirdly compelling.

Funny, well-researched & awesome
I love the variety of topics covered on this podcast and am very impressed by the amount of research that goes in. The hosts are smart, funny, and as former journalists and current librarians, their info can be trusted. This is a favorite & regular listen for me.
reviewingstuffincognito
Love. Overlooked and underrated.
The content is interesting and I feel like I’m chatting with two friends. In a sea of podcasts that have a passing acquaintance with accuracy Strange Country is the work of two former journalists - turned - librarians. So what you hear is trustworthy, and presented with a dose of intelligent humor. Please keep it up, Kelly and Beth! Great work!

Don’t bother
I thought this would be worthwhile, disappointing!!!
You have to listen to a lot of banter that has nothing to do with the topic. Of course she has to throw in her politics, Trump hatred, it’s really awful . Don’t waste your time

They’re woke.
I was interested in listening and 3 minutes in they were already spreading your wokeness. Plenty of other podcasts to listen to.

Didn’t even want to leave 1 star
I could not listen more than 10 minutes and that was after ffw’ing it several times. I stopped when I thought they were finally getting to the case, but the host was extremely annoying and the person she was talking to sounded like she was talking on a landline from 1980. And they still kept talking about other stuff 🤦🏼♀️ Do not recommend.

Potential but too much off track and pointless chatter
This podcast has potential but one of the hosts (Kelly) interrupts and giggles like a teenager. As a result the discussions are very superficial. I wish the conversations stayed on track and were deeper.

Worst. Podcast. Ever.
I’ve listened to a lot of true crime podcasts. And while I’m used to the obligatory few minutes of chit chat, these two hambones devote over HALF of some episodes regaling their mundane lives (all of our lives are mundane, BTW). The Sodder episode went 21 minutes before they introduced us to the mystery - but not before discussion of cat pee, Frances (sp) “Dorman” and a pretty scathing review of “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” which claims the writer just “traveled around the south US and then wrote the story”. Yikes. So - factually inaccurate information, constant interruptions and endless babble - do you need more? And for goodness sakes - people still live on Sardinia. I’m sure they would appreciate you pronouncing their country’s name correctly.

Cut the Chase and go straight to the topic!
Interesting topics no question about it, too bad they spend a big chunk of the time talking about personal stories and issues completely unrelated to the topic.

Awful
First: Fact check. So many things wrong on so many episodes, too many to list. Second: Get to the point and stay on point. Laughing at your own jokes and chattering like teenage girls is not fun to listen to at all.

just discovered this podcast and love it!
i just discovered your podcast and absolutely love it! you are great at telling stories and you are funny! i love your chemistry together and i even love when you get off topic.
Miamigirl2SF
Maybe just one host?
All of the questions were driving me crazy. It was like being in a meeting with a co-worker who can’t discern between what’s important to the story and what’s just a fact.

Someone teach her the art of conversation
Listened to 1 episode, and I was annoyed before it was half over. I tried. I really did, but the chatter box that never shuts up and constantly interrupts is intolerable. My head hurts.

Ditto
I also came to listen to the Qanon episode. Kelly ruined it. Also Marjorie Taylor Green is from Georgia. Kelly ruined it.

I have found my tribe!
I love these women. I love their content and their delivery. I’m a 40-something mom who also rages against the machine and thinks in George Michael lyrics. If you’re looking for solid information to form the base of your opinions (or you’re doing research for something important)- why are you here?! Go to the library! This is a podcast for entertainment. These women are human. They make mistakes. And they’re friends, so yes, they occasionally interrupt each other, but definitely not often enough to warrant a bad review. I think some of the negative reviews are more about a difference in ideology rather than honest feedback about the content. This podcast is funny and authentic. Exactly what I’ve been looking for.

Great podcast
I love listening to the this podcast while I’m shelving at the library. The stories are always interesting and informative and I enjoy hearing both Beth and Kelly’s comedic takes.
This message is approved by the secret society of librarians.

So sorry I wasted my time
I had just finished reading “Before We Were Yours” and wanted to know more about Georgia Tann and the Tennessee Children’s Home Society. This podcast came up as an option in my search, so I downloaded it & was surprised that it started with just a bunch of nonsensical conversation unrelated to this subject at all. A lot of silliness and giggling about things that didn’t even matter to me. I wondered if I perhaps downloaded the wrong episode. Soon, the girls started discussing the subject, but very often strayed off to again discuss girly things unrelated to this topic. There was a “E” language icon next to this episode, so I anticipated some language thrown in, but was very turned off by the constant use of off-putting words. I don’t particularly find it classy for women to throw around vulgar language incessantly. They just sounded “trashy”. I will not be wasting my time with these gals (certainly not ladies) again.

Too many interruptions...... geez
Listening to the QAnon episode. Literally came to listen to the QAnon info. Kelly keeps interrupting and seems totally unaware that her cohost is trying to stay on course. It’s annoying to listen to because she keeps interrupting with unnecessary comments and takes. They aren’t on the same page.

Love it
Love these ladies' and their sarcastic rapport. My kind of people.

So much giggling girl blah blah that bores
I am 32 min in w 17 min left and still talking about idiotic jabber. What is the point? Run away from this waste of time.

Podcast version of unwatchable
I listened to the Wanda Holloway episode and here are my thoughts: Poorly researched, constant interrupting, inability to stay on topic, and not detailed enough. If this podcast wants to make it in the true-crime podcast realm, they need to really up their game! I think getting rid of Kelly and stopping the attempt to be funny like MFM aspect would really benefit this podcast. They need to make the episodes way longer and way more detailed. I found this podcast to be unbearable to listen to and boring as a whole...I could have gotten more interesting information reading the Wikipedia page on the case. Also, when Kelly said she understood why a mom would create a fake MySpace account to catfish a 13 year old friend of her daughters, I wanted to turn it off in disgust. I do not recommend.

Odd style
This show struggles to find common ground as one host is attempting to present material in a serious way with an informed point of view while the other host cannot maintain attention to the topic and often interrupts by making absolute tasteless self serving comments and derails any intelligent momentum ever achieved. It is not cute nor funny.

Barely 3
Just tuned in to listen to the Richard Jewell episode. I really wanted to hear details about this topic but the professional one, Beth, was struggling to tell the story because Kelly was really doing her best to bury this topic in toddler like banter while eating directly into the microphone and cutting Beth off and steering her away from the story. It became really hard to keep on track with the facts. It is almost like Kelly didn’t want us to hear this story at all. It was a horrible case of Mic Blocking. Because I like Beth I gave this 3 stars. I will listen to one more episode but if the next one is anything like this one... I can’t continue on with this podcast. Please take your audience and the stories more seriously. I do like a little humor with my facts, but this seems to be more like a few facts sprinkled in with a ton of distractions. Leaving the audience to having to go find the details elsewhere.

There’s potential here!!
I found this podcast looking to learn more about john du pont. So far i have listen 28min out of 54min episode and i have just learned that dupont family came from france, his dad leave his family and he likes to collect things 😆😆.

Boring
I cocukdnt stand the constant interruptions and lack of decent story telling or even the telling of facts in a logical sequence. I think they feel they are being funny, but they aren’t funny at all. MFM is my jam. Those ladies are hilarious and excellent story tellers.

Updated review!
Because I felt the hosts had potential, I decided to listen to a few more episodes and I’m happy to say that there are a few that have more crunchy information in them, and that get to the point sooner. For that, I’ve increased my rating to four stars. I also laughed out loud during the Bell Witch episode - I don’t remember why, but the witty bon mots had me chuckling, so well done, y’all. I will keep listening, knowing that I may have to FF through the various tangents but the hosts are funny, on the right side of the political fence, and good natured enough to make it worthwhile.
I tried to slog thru the LB episode but could barely make it to 40 minutes and I still don’t think they’ve gotten to the murders! I’m fine with some extraneous chat but this amount was egregious, not germane, and not funny. There was no sense of anticipation or drama leading up to the actual murders: it was like, “then Abby was axed to death.” “Wait. Did I spill my wine? Oops! Remember last week when I...blah blah”
Happy to give y’all another chance because you’re smart and choose excellent topics but please cut down on the personal thoughts that have nothing to do with the story.

Very boring podcasters
Spent most of their time dropping F bombs and offering political bias. We’re all over the map except rarely on topic. Out of the hour about 5 minutes ( albeit not all at once so hard to follow) was on the story. Don’t waste your time.

You will either love or hate this
Good audio quality from the start. I enjoy the humor and digressions while also learning something. If tight edited podcasts are a must for you, this podcast may not be for you.

Informative & Hilarious
If you’re looking for a perfectly over-produced podcast...look elsewhere. If you want to listen to real, down-to-earth hosts unearth well-researched bizarre stories while also maintaining their senses of humor, this is the show for you. There are a million dry, polished history podcasts you can listen to (I like those too!) but no one banters like Beth and Kelly :-)
ghoulfran
Dump your co-host Beth!
I tuned in to listen to the story of Richard Jewell and instead listened to a woman named Kelly eat nuts into microphone, constantly interrupt her co-host who was trying to tell the story, and cackle.
Unlistenable. I can take 10 minutes of pre-story chatter, but not 25.
