Listen in as StoryTown Radio Show hosts its annual “Salute to Veterans” performance! Featured stories come from local men and women who served in the Armed Forces. StoryTown will be sharing stories about Jimmy Neil Smith in this new episode, titled, “A Country Boy with a Dream." A Jonesborough native, Jimmy Neil was a journalism teacher at Science Hill High School, and his early love for storytelling led him to create the Storytelling Festival in 1973. He also served as Jonesborough’s mayor for several years and helped to turn the historic town into the destination it is today. He was a well known and much beloved character, and everyone who met him has a story to tell about him. We’ll be sharing stories from co-workers, family members, fellow storytellers, former students, and more. The music guest for this production is the Science Hill SteelToppers, making their high-energy Radio Show debut!

Did you know the history of Jonesborough's Jackson Theater goes all the way back to the 1920s? The building was first opened as a theater in 1922 , but after it's closure in 1960, the building fell into disrepair. It was around this time that the theater was purchased by the late Wesley Wilson, who began the initial steps at restoration. Wesley took care of the building until 2014, when the Town of Jonesborough purchased it and began to work on its final restoration to the Theatre we know and love today. In this episode of Voices of the Archives, we’re going to hear from Wesley Wilson himself, as he shares what the Jackson was like when he acquired the building.
