17. Sustainability is a Journey; Living on a Farm W/ Scott Yelton
Show notes: Today I had my first in person and on location recording with my dad, Scott Yelton! Scott is currently a pasture raised chicken farmer in Oregon who has spent the last two decades of his life exploring what sustainability looks like to him and how to make a sustainable life style work for him, his family, and his values in a world that is hyper focused on money, advertising, and selling to children.  After spending most of his time working for companies that help promote a greener future and lifestyle he set out to give farming a try. He now finds value in his work and contentment in knowing where his food comes from and the chance to return back to the earth. He even got his masters in ecology and sustainability, but tells us that we don't need a fancy degree to learn about sustainability, or anything in that mannor. Scott says that the best thing you can do is to start. Start learning, start a practice, engage in conversations, and get outside to re-connect with nature. Thank you for listening and if you can please leave a review and share this podcast with someone who might like to hear it! 14. The Importance of Connecting to Nature and your Community W/ Jenn Wang
Show notes: Thank you Jenn for sharing your favorite quote and what it means to you! Today we discuss how so many cultures and communities life a lifestyle of connecting with their communities and to nature/the earth; but we also point out that western culture doesn't find value in these lifestyles and how we can see that throughout history and still in modern day times. It is so important to find connection to nature daily, and it can be as simple as stopping to feel the breeze on your face.  Take time to stop and smell the roses, for real!! Jenn and I were both fortunate to grow up in schools that valued education around connecting with and protecting the planet. We both believe that this should be taught in all schools. Start with small changes in action. This will create a butterfly effect, also known as the ripple effect! Show notes: Welcome Ayush Kesari, a travel expert from India! Today we talk about how sustainability looks different all over the world: materialistically, economically, and socially. We touch on how even in remote un-inhabited places it is easy and clear to see the effects of climate change, from watching glaciers melt to finding trash in the middle of nowhere. Finally we talk a little bit about how there is a great possibility to use travel as a drive for change and sustainability, because travelers (notice how I didn't say tourists), usually have an open mind to learning.
