It's been well over a year since the last episode of Stadium Scene's Main Event. In this special edition we talk about what's been up, officially welcome our long-time friend Ralph Schudel to the team, and go over the direction of Stadium Scene in 2024 and beyond.
Initially, we talked about 2023 and how the law known as "Section 230" and the formal end of the COVID-19 pandemic shifted our strategy. Had the US Supreme Court overturned Section 230, it likely would have resulted in us having to shut down. We go into why.
The big changes for 2024 include:
- No longer taking on new blog partners (our current blog partners will be supported as long as they continue to run their blogs)
- Rebranding of our podcast section to Stadium Scene Radio which includes a plan to introduce live radio in late 2024
- Continued growth of the Stadium Scene TV channel with sports talk shows, Wednesday Night Dash, and a new IndyCar-themed iRacing league that will debut in February as long as the iRacing/IndyCar licensing issues are resolved by then.
In part two of the episode, Ralph and D.J. play True/False with sports stories that could happen in 2024. Does Messi "slow down", do the Las Vegas Aces repeat as WNBA champions, and much more!
Thank you again for your ongoing support of Stadium Scene and we look forward to serving you with new content in 2024!

D.J. and Kate are back with the second "Ten Minutes With..." episode of 2022. Yes, we know the episode is 24 minutes long. Just like the Big Ten Conference, we cannot count either.
Today we are joined by Gianna Belcastro, host of "Women's Sports Matter Podcast". Gianna is another "pandemic created podcast" that has continued on even after most of the pandemic created podcasts have ended. They feature some of the top women and women's sports leagues in the world along with interview coaches, players, and other important people in the sports.
In addition, we discuss the challenges of being a woman/non-binary person in sports and the importance of discussing and bringing to light scandals such as the NWSL player abuse scandal and how they went for so long without the general public being aware. Gianna also discusses being invited to podcast row of the United Soccer Coaches Convention and performing a live audience broadcast at a convention just outside of Chicago. A very packed 24 minutes with some incredible deep discussion.

After a long hiatus, Kate and D.J. are back with the first Ten Minutes With... of 2022! Today they are joined by Sean and Drew of "Winning Losers Podcast". We get right into discussing how they met through a mutual friend and what the inspiration was for starting a podcast. We side track and talk successful college coaches who have flopped in the NFL, stand up comedy, and the most awkward time Sean bombed on stage at a stand up gig. Stick around to hear Sean and Drew's advice for how to be better at podcasting. It's something you won't want to miss!

In our next episode of "Play x Play," Kate and D.J. discuss "Lucky Bastard" by Joe Buck. Pretty much all of us have seen Joe Buck call either an NFL or MLB game for FOX at some point in the last 30 years and he is often one of the more criticized announcers of our generation. That being said, we discuss the book and overall thought it was very open, honest, and entertaining to the point that when it was released in 2016, several people had a change of heart about him.
In the episode, we go over some of our favorite chapters of the book, comment on his footnotes, his relationship with his famous father, Jack Buck, how a cheap plastic batting helmet may have saved his life, and talk about his unusual family situation growing up. For September, we will be reading "It's Game Time Folks - The Quest for 30" by our good friend Mark Darden. Be sure to check out both books on Amazon by clicking the links below.
Your purchase will pay us a small commission that helps keep Stadium Scene TV running and allows us to continue to grow and expand our operation.

We get into why she became a blogger, a discussion about rush week at the University of Alabama (which D.J. had no idea what they were talking about), and the legacy of Nick Saban and how much longer will he remain in Tuscaloosa.
Finally, we get into her advice for blogging and being organized with content.

Today we look at the story behind what caused the infamous power outage at Super Bowl XLVII at the Mercedes-Benz SuperDome in New Orleans, LA,, featuring the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers back on February 3, 2013. We even feature the clip where friend of the show and former Ravens safety, Bernard Pollard talks about being on the field and his reaction to the lights shutting off during the game. Since most people watching this are not technical people or Electrical Engineers, the explanations in this story are kept very basic. If you're interested in the full technical report, check it out here.

We're trying something new this week over at the show. Once a month, Kate and D.J. will be discussing a book on the topic of sports or journalism. This was NOT a paid review or promotion by the author or publisher of the book. A list is compiled by Kate and D.J. and the book each month is selected at random.
For our first episode, "Talking to GOATs" by Jim Gray is discussed. He is a reporter who just seemed to be at the right place at the right time for several major sports events over the last 30+ years. We talk Tyson vs Holyfield II (The ear bite fight), Lebron James' "The Decision", Jim's infamous interview with Pete Rose, discovering a very young Tiger Woods, his friendships and relationships he's built over his career and a wonderful Masters story about and tribute to his late father.
Mr. Gray - You have an open invitation to come on the show any time to talk! We really enjoyed the read!
It was definitely worth the read, so be sure to go check out "Talking to GOATs" and next month our featured book is "Lucky Bastard" by Joe Buck. Go order it and read along with us!

So we said last week when we released episode 100 that it was difficult to edit because there was just so much good material and we wanted to keep the show around the one-hour mark. We couldn't let all this good material go to waste, so episode 101 is the best of what got cut from episode 100! Note that some of these segments appeared in episode 100, but we have the full unedited segment. The first segment is D.J. going on about Jeppson's Malört, first with Kate and then second with guests Adam Corsair and Kevin Pettit. Learn about this infamous Chicago drink and why some people call it the "World's Worst Liquor".
In our next segment, we return to the interview with Ralph Schudel and play a clip from before we actually started the segment. It turns out to be a lot of bad impressions (Tom Brokaw, Dick Vitale and his Hooters Commercial (https://youtu.be/RSdyD-1xdk0), Gheorghe Muresan and his Snickers cologne commercial (https://youtu.be/CuU9DjeLESY), and former Cavalier/Laker Timofey Mozgov with the backward jersey (https://youtu.be/mWS9OaIXH4E).
Next, we have a quick clip of Kate (15:06) talking about how she signed up for Red Bull Flugtag when she was 13 and the interesting response she got from the company...
Finally, we have a nice discussion with Adam Corsair and Kevin Pettit about giving up on podcasts, the surprisingly low number of episodes it takes to be in the "top 1%" of most episodes released, taking criticism online for takes, handling negative reviews....and then Canadian Geese?

Today Kate and D.J. sit down with Andrew Dymburt from ABC News Washington DC Bureau. You've seen him on ABC World News Tonight, Good Morning America, and your local ABC News affiliate. Even though Andrew spends time at the White House and the US Capitol, he actually started his career in journalism by covering sports!
Today's episode talks about steps Andrew took to get to where he is today through internships, freelance work, and ultimately the steps he took in his career to get to where he is today including the difficulty covering his alma mater, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School after the shooting in 2018. Andrew also discusses going to high school with Chicago Cubs All-Star, Anthony Rizzo and the work he's done in the Parkland community since becoming a Major Leaguer.
Stick around until the end and learn what his favorite 90s jam was or what his "Spirit Dinosaur" is (I don't know...ask Kate, it was her question). If you're interested in working in TV journalism, this episode is for you!
Follow Andrew on Twitter and Instagram.
