I’ve heard this story so many times, but didn’t know a lot of what you brought to light here. Great first episode! Also, I’m showing my age here, but the person receiving a collect call had the opportunity to accept the call or reject it based on the operator telling them the name of the person calling. They only paid for the calls they accepted.
