Spiritual Combat
Scott M. Sullivan
I'm Scott M. Sullivan Ph.D., a homeschooling dad and philosopher in the Thomistic tradition of St. Thomas Aquinas. As the creator of this podcast and my company, Classical Theist, I aim to educate and encourage my fellow Christians on their own journey to Christ by making the great intellectual patrimony of the Catholic tradition conveniently accessible through modern media. Often so hidden in dusty out of print books, the goal of Spiritual Combat is to present the best of that rich intellectual tradition in an engaging and accessible way to the modern world by means of the latest media technology.
EP7: Should Church Language On Homosexuality Be Softened?
The controversial document released by the Vatican Synod on the Family yesterday has caused quite a bit of confusion and frustration from serious Catholics. The problem is that the document (which has no doctrinal authority whatsoever), seems to want to soften the traditional language regarding various sins, notably the sin of homosexuality. But should the language on homosexuality be softened? Is it a good thing to tone down and even offer backhanded praise for orientations pointing away from God’s law and towards self destruction? In this podcast episode of Spiritual Combat will discuss this problematic desire to soften the Church language on homosexuality.

EP6: Fight Church - The Morality Of MMA
Is mixed martial arts competition sinful? The recently released movie “Fight Church” discusses the morality of MMA in regards to Christianity. Now I appear in this film, however I am not happy with how my parts were edited. Although the film crew interviewed me for about 4 hours, the end result in the movie was that my position was presented in a little less than 5 minutes. So the editing was done in a way that does not make my position clear, and in order to clear the air on this question, this podcast episode of Spiritual Combat will discuss the morality of MMA competition as it pertains to Christian ethics.

EP4: The Problem With Your Church
In all likelihood there is a problem with your church. This problem is not confined to any particular denomination. It is a problem that infects most Catholic parishes and protestant communities, but it is not commonly recognized, even by the well-intending faithful.

EP3: The Sin Of Drunkeness
Drinking alcohol and its relation to sin is often misunderstood. Some Christians believe that any drinking at all is sinful while others seem to think that no amount of drinking is sinful. Both extremes are false. Moral theology makes important distinctions that need to be kept in mind when determining the sinful nature regarding alcohol. In this episode of Spiritual Combat, we discuss the sin of drunkenness.
