For generations, the Gullah Geechee people of South Carolina's Lowcountry have passed down stories of mysterious supernatural beings known as Plat-Eyes, terrifying apparitions said to haunt the region's lonely roads, swamps, and woodlands. Sometimes appearing as ordinary animals and other times as monstrous creatures with glowing eyes, these strange entities have become an enduring part of the region's rich folklore. But one particularly chilling account comes from a Gullah woman named Addie Knox, whose alleged encounter with a Plat-Eye was recorded by folklorist Genevieve Willcox Chandler during the 1930s. While making her way home through the dark, swampy woods near Murrells Inlet, Addie reportedly came face to face with something unlike anything she had ever seen before, an experience that would forever change the way she regarded the old stories passed down by her ancestors. This episode is made possible through the support of our sponsor: Use code GOTHIC at jonesroadbeauty.com to get a Free Gift with your first purchase! #JonesRoadBeauty Make your bed your favorite place to be this season with Quince.
