Honest conversations with talented and smart folks, and produced well
I am the AV Director at a large church in Alabama, which means my job is equal parts system-design/maintenance/mixing and TEACHING LAY-PEOPLE how to run these systems themselves. Your podcast and articles help me put into simple words the complex ideas that make up our work. Thank you.

Nathan delivers concise, informative, and entertaining series'. A++
I can't wait to listen to more. I discovered Nathan's email series and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nathan delivers dense nuggets of knowledge and references in entertaining and easy to digest packages. I am new to the podcast, but I'm certain each episode is absolute gold. I've learned a lot already, and brushed up on old lessons as well. With numerous emails arriving with incredible synchronicity to my life and work circumstances, my entire discovery of Nathan Lively and the gifts he has to offer us in the professional sound industry has been very apropos. I suspect he has some sort of magic wand, or crystal ball. You know, the kind people seem to think sound engineers all have hidden away in the audio closet. Thanks for everything you do Nathan. Cheers Phillip

I'm an avid listener of Sound Design Live and love how much information has been made available for the rest of us. The interviews offer something for every aspect of professional audio, whether it be live FOH mixing, AV integration & installation, system design, optimization, theatrical, etc. I give it 10/10.

Awesome Interviews From Industry Professionals
I love listening to the interviews of the guests that Nathan had on the show. I especially loved the one that had a lot to do with acoustics. All of the interviews have a lot of helpful information and are from industry pros. There’s not many other podcasts out there that delve into the realm of the live audio industry as well as this one!

Thanks for the help!
I have been following your podcast since I heard you on the “Behind The Mixer” podcast. My interest is not obvious from LinkedIn. In addition to my day job, I am a volunteer technical director and primary FOH engineer at my church in Prior Lake, MN. I learn a lot from your podcast.

May 22, 2012 Episode
Greetings: I'm a sound buff who enjoys your podcast! About 24 minutes into your May 22, 2012 episode, you mentioned the issue of how loud the sound is at live events. You gently informed sound engineers that they are there to enhance the sound of the performers, not deafen everyone. Good advice, but as in the recording industry, loudness is a rather touchy, nuanced issue. Very often, it is not the live engineer, or in the case of recording, the mix or mastering engineer, who decides how 'loud' the final product(a concert, or a new CD) will be. That is more often or not driven by the client. By client I mean the band themselves, the organization putting on the event, and in the case of an album, the artists, producer, or record label, that drives this 'loudness war' we unfortunately are all too familiar with. They, and not the engineers, are the ones who need education on musical fidelity and on 'how loud' is enough. Appreciate your bringing it up though, as it is a very touchy subject. Kind regards, The 'K-Man' :)

Refreshing Focus on Live Sound
I mainly mix and master records, but I have just recently started running sound for a few friends in bands. Mainly 2-500 cap rooms so far. It's been intimidating honestly and this podcast was really helpful. I especially enjoyed the episode about tour managing, as a few of the bands I have worked with have started asking about tour managing duties as well. Also highly recommend the episode with Larry Crane.

I run sound at a church for Sunday services and different functions throughout the week. I also occasionally run sound for different performers at various venues. I find this podcast entertaining as well as very informative. As a technophile with varied interests with a focus on music production and performance, this podcast quickly made it into my favorites.

Nathan is not only skilled at recording audio, but he knows the art and science behind conducting a great interview. This is one of my favorites. Unseen people for unseen people
For those of us that work in sound have very little resources other than some magazines. Sound Design Live is a great source for finding what other designers are doing from the horses mouth. I look forward to each podcast after listening to a new one.

Fun Tech
This is a lot more fun, personable, and critical than your typical trade magazine article, which are usually so dry.

Great Interview
Really love the 'mixing for Emmlou Harris' podcast. Interesting how the business of recording is so similar to photography. It's not necessarily how good you are or whatnot, it's whether or not you're around when someone needs you.

Great Resource!
