Can you review the alchemist

Perhaps I just happened to pick the wrong first episode to listen to and the hosts were having an off day, but I found the discussion to be mostly summary and shallow complaints. I was hoping for something more insightful.

I’ve always been a voracious reader, but lately with kids, work and easy (digital) distractions I’ve stopped. This podcast brought me back to reading. Thank you!

I heard about this very interesting podcast from John’s brother, Dan, on The Flophouse. I am a book nerd too. And listening to John and his guests discuss the classics is a joy to me.

I highly recommend this show, it's a delight. Also, I was on an episode once but that aside...subscribe.

Enjoying remembering books I thought I had forgotten. Love it!

I shouldn't have needed a podcast to revisit a lot of the fantastic, half-remembered literature I loved so much in high school (nearly twenty years ago *gasp*), but I did. Honestly very grateful to have found this. (...adding another thank you while editing an autocorrect snafu)

I am really enjoying rereading the "classics" along with the show. It's also fun to learn about some that my classes never got to.

This podcast really takes me back….to the part of high school I could stand. I loved Fall of the House of Usher, Romeo and Juliet, and all the other classics of literature. The best part of listening in my thirties is the two hosts’ reflection on how the lit affects them now vs then. Very insightful, honest, and refreshing commentary.

10th grade literature is a lot better as an adult and with these hosts to lead you through it.

I started listening on mention from Dan McCoy. Got interested enough to actually re-read one of the books because of this podcast. Satisfying discussion, not pretentious, not loud, succinct in general and it makes me feel smart. I recommend this podcast to people who subsist on goofy podcasts and want something smarter but not intimidating to listen to. (Ideal listener also was a nerd in High school English)

John is such a gentle, generous, and insightful host, he & his guests make revisiting your high school English classes a pleasure.
