A life of gambling . Carl speaks very openly about his fond memories of betting on the horses as a child with his grandfather, the thrill of going to the races . This developed into a darker side of gambling online and in casinos and living with a gambling addiction that ended up taking so much .. Amazing conversation with Kerry , Very open and honest share of her personal journey to becoming a sober coach. Kerry words :- It got to the point where my mental health felt like it had been hit by a sledgehammer. So, off to counselling I went. In one of the sessions, I said “I wish I didn’t drink” she replied “OK, so why don’t you not drink?”. I think I may have looked at her like SHE needed counselling, I mean seriously, stop drinking? Was she mad? Obviously, I dismissed this suggestion as crazy talk and busied myself with mindfulness, walking, yoga, anything but give up the booze! But from that tiny seed, an alcohol-free thought grew. So, I dipped my toe in by completing Dry January, then the following year I didn’t drink alcohol from January to March. I had learned nothing, on my birthday at the end of March, I fell back into my old ways immediately and lived to regret it the next morning. I could sense that I needed to make some long-term changes and I signed up to 26-mile charity hike. I knew I couldn’t do this if I carried on drinking alcohol. That’s when I made the decision that I needed and wanted to challenge myself to not drink alcohol for a year. I didn’t know it at the time, but that decision was the start of my new life. That was over 3 years ago. Since then, I am also cigarette free, lost 28lbs, have improved finances, better health and fitness, balanced mental health, better relationships and have become a Sobriety and Personal Growth Coach. I feel empowered, and that to me is better than any bottle of wine. I’m not going to lie and say it’s easy, but who wants a life that’s easy if it means you’re not fulfilling your potential? You are here for one life, so don’t live it on auto pilot, EMPOWER UP your own life. Believe you can change your relationship with alcohol, and from that tiny seed, watch your whole life grow and blossom in ways you would not believe.
