Thom is a 3rd year PhD student. His research focusses on interviewing students with learning disabilities and their parents to find out how it has impacted their schooling and studying experience, social class and how that informs education policy.
We also discuss whether we think in pictures or words. Wait what?! So you mean to say some people have an internal running monologue while others see pictures, colours and feelings instead!? Mind blown!

After previous episodes on some positive and negative student experiences on their supervisors, we have Nat to tie it all together by giving us an insight into supervisorship. Nat is a researcher with many years of experience and has supervised many students along the way.
She tells all about her previous PhD experience, what it takes to be a good supervisor, some of the best and worst students she's had and some tips on what it takes to succeed. Nat gives us a pep talk on seeing beyond the deep, dark PhD tunnel. We also share some movie and book recommendations...come for the therapy, stay for the reccos!

In stark contrast to the last episode, we flip the coin and discuss some positive supervisor stories submitted from students. Its so uplifting and empowering to hear about supervisors who are more mentor and friend than scary boss and those who know how to balance their time to prioritise students and their mental health (amongst other great things mentioned!) We know no ones perfect - heck students definitely aren't perfect but its so important to find a supervisor you work well with that supports you! And if you look around carefully you may find that one diamond in the sea of pebbles.

We include some tips on things to consider when things with lab members/supervisory team are not sailing smoothly.
