Fr. James Martin, SJ: Roman Catholicism and the American Presidency
Fr. James Martin, SJ joins us today to discuss the American presidency and its relationship to Roman Catholicism. Despite having over 70,000,000 adherents in the nation today and making up 22% of the population of the United States, there have only been two United States Presidents who identified as Roman Catholic. The two men, Presidents Kennedy and Biden have served within the last 60 years of our nation's history. Fr. Martin is a Jesuit Priest, Editor at American Magazine, and prolific author. His newest book, Come Forth: The Promise of Jesus' Greatest Miracle will be released in September by Harper Collins. He has also been personally selected by Pope Francis himself to serve on the Synod for Synodality, a Roman Catholic Conference akin to the Second Vatican Council that seeks to address the pressing issues of our time from a Catholic perspective. For now though, Jim joins me to talk about the American Presidency and his relationship to a branch of faith he knows quite well. Find out more about this project at our Presidential Theologies Database.
