Hello, movie maniacs!

This week Mary and David watched Andrew Stanton’s newest entry in the Toy Story franchise – Toy Story 5 – featuring the voice talents of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and Great Lee.
The Toy Story films one to three are obviously deathless classics and, while the fourth film took a dip in quality, can the newest instalment take the franchise to new heights or at least keep it aloft?
With the introduction of tech in the form of Lilypad – a tablet for kids – to the franchise, David and Mary discuss some of the film’s themes: games vs. play, the effects of screen life on children and parents, and making room for the weirdoes.
But in the world of Toy Story, toys are people too, and the film also includes themes of abandonment, the fear of replacement and the fear of becoming redundant in a world that has left you behind.
Pretty heady stuff, but approached with the usual Pixar mix of sentiment and humour!
Thanks for listening!
