Helps a lot
Hi Otis. I’m a big fan of you. But you have helped me sleep MUCH better. I used to have a lot of nightmares but now I have a few nightmares a year. Thanks to you and your podcast I can sleep better. So thank you so very much for your help and for your time reading these books and I appreciate you for the time you’ve spent reading these books. It help me and can help a lot of other people and people who also have trouble sleeping and having nightmares as well. So thank you for your help, time and energy for reading and helping me and others with sleep issues and that are having nightmares. Thank you! 😌😇😌

I like this podcast a lot, but there is too many things before you get to the story. Other than that, its a great podcast!

Sleep Deeply
Your reading always helps me sleep. Your voice and story selection are often part of my nightly ritual to sleep deeply. For that I thank you so very much. Just as an FYI, one of your stories, Thousand and One Nights, which I was very excited you were reading, was ruinef for me because you mispronounced Shaherzad’s name throughout your reading. I had to stop listening to my dismay.

What person wants to fall asleep hearing a story about female sex slaves? Not a normal person who cares about the quality of their sleep. And certainly not a woman who is trying to have a peaceful sleep with peaceful dreams. I am so sick of men and their inconsideration. You ruined my sleep plan and you’re boycotted for being dumb af.

Volume difference
I want to love this. The actual stories are good, but when the ads are read I cannot get past the JARRING volume difference. After listening to the stories, it is quite unpleasant. Rather than purchasing, I end up walking away. It is too much of a sensory overload.

Problem is. . .
I like his reading & sometimes fall asleep, ( not always) but there’ve been a few books I’ve searched for the entire novel! Well of Lonliness was my favorite.

Better than Benadryl
I rarely get to hear more than a few minutes of the story - Otis’ voice combined with old stories lulls me to sleep every time. I’ve tried other sleep stories and Sleepy is the best of them all in my opinion.

A Little Dull
I was into the reading at first, thinking Otis has a slow, deep voice…suitable for reading a sleep story…but that’s when he’s reading the advertisements. Once the story begins, though, it slows down to a monotonous reading without inflection. If his readings would match the same energy as his ads, I would like it a lot more. It also sounds like he has post-nasal drip…like he needs to clear his throat…a lot! Maybe hot tea is the cure. This is the second reading I’ve listened to of his. Maybe this is an off day.

Missing the Sleepy of the Past…
I have long been a supporter of Sleepy and the show, recommending it to everyone, liking, and sharing. But for the last couple of months I have really struggled with the seven to ten minutes long prologue of advertisements. In today’s episode, a third of the program was dedicated to ads. To avoid this, we have to migrate platforms to another paid site. (Patreon) It seems like these programs are being overrun by sponsorships, ads, and plugs for patronage. This podcast used to be the escape from that…

My Favorite
I have been listening to this podcast since 2020, almost every night. I love listening to Otis read books! It’s such a nice way to fall asleep. There are so many episodes to choose from and I never make it through the whole reading. When I am really tired I just go to my old favorites and other nights when I need to unwind I will pick a new episode and try to get into the story for a bit. Thank you Otis!

Voice and speed help me relax and fall asleep. I find his tone soothing and easy to listen to. Never hear the end of the story. Thank you.

The BEST podcast of its type, hands down!
I’ve tried a ton of these type of podcasts but I keep coming back to Sleepy because it’s the best. Otis’ voice is the prefect pitch and speed for drowsy listening. He doesn’t make any extra mouth sounds or draw out his s so they hiss. Top tier story choice so if I still can’t fall asleep, it’s interesting. Love the seasonal themes too. (Spooky story month is my favorite) Another huge plus is that there are only commercials at the beginning if you’re listening to the free version, so nothing to jolt you awake once he’s reading. Keep up the great work and thank you for so many night’s sleep!

Sorry, I don’t like the narrator.
The narrator doesn’t read well and sounds amateurish. I think people told him he has a nice voice, and he decided that was enough. But, my dislike could because he sounds GenZ and I’m GenX. It’s unpleasant to my ear.

Maybe A Little Too Interesting
I fell asleep during a previous episode the night before and missed the beginning of “Beetle” but it started playing again when my phone paired with my car’s bluetooth the next morning. Even when I was parked at my destination, I sat and continued to listen. The exposition is very vivid, but the pacing is painfully slow. I wondered how anyone could actually fall asleep while listening to a story about a man being terrorized by a giant insect? I look forward to listening to the rest of the October offerings, probably during the day!

The Best Podcast Ever
I just wanna start by saying, there are nights where I can’t get to sleep without this podcast. Both of the Sherlock Holmes stories, the Great Gatsby, Perseus & Medusa, and the Labors of Hercules are in my heavy rotations. I’ve been struggling with insomnia for my entire life and sometimes this is the only thing that helps me sleep. I also want to address the bad reviews about reading too long and the monotonous reading: you can skip forward, and the monotone voice actually allows for some people to turn their brain off and sleep. I personally can’t listen to a sleep podcast that’s too animated. I get too interested in the story and it keeps me up. If that’s not you, then look elsewhere. But this is perfect for me and the type of sleep I need, so I’m going to continue listening for a long long time. Thank you so much Otis, I appreciate you!

Thanks
I am really enjoying Otis' voice and his wonderful choice of readings. Been listening since last fall, and I still turn to it regularly. Only thing, not a complaint but a correction, which I imagine you have heard about: Evelyn Waugh was a man

The Devoted Friend
I like this podcast and I usually fall asleep before the story ends. This story was not a good one for falling asleep. It just made me mad and now I’m wide awake and will have to find another story.

I absolutely melt into my bed and I’m off to sleep.
Thanks to this podcast I have a real sense of stillness and serenity while listening to Otis read. His voice is perfectly deep, gentle, warm and sincere. This works better than anything. Please please give it a try if you need sleep. Trust me, you deserve sleep and this wonderful effect Otis absolutely has.

Sleep bag of tricks essential!
When nothing else works this podcast does! Otis’s voice is gentle and calm. I love the slow pace of speech which inevitably gets me to breath to its pace. It slows me down and take the edge off so I can sleep. Wonderful to have in your bag of tricks for sleeplessness!

Lovely Idea & Voice
I was about to follow but on my first listen it was 7 minutes in before the actual story started. I understand there has to be ads to fund the programming, just can’t seem to imagine falling asleep to that. Personal ads seem unnecessary.

Love this show!
I just recently found this show. I’m so glad I did. The stories are interesting and Otis is an amazing storyteller.

Thanks and Book Suggestion
Thanks so much Otis for a great podcast that has helped me get to sleep so easily. It has always been hard for me to fall asleep but my problems have been cured since listening to this show. I have a book suggestion of the Adventures of Ready Fox by Thornton Burgess. This story has an amazing background drone to it and I think would be perfect to fall asleep to. If you like it I understand there is a whole series about the individual adventures of each character that are all written in the same lolling manner. I have checked and these are all available on the public domain. I hope you see review and read this book on the show. Thanks.

I’ve never heard the end of an episode….
I cannot say enough kind things about this podcast. It has become my tried and true sleep aid. The diversity in stories is amazing! Otis recently said he had a sobriety anniversary and I want to wish him a congratulations as I have recently hit a sobriety milestone too. Thank you Otis for all you do. Your presence matters and you are valued by so many people. Keep up the great work!

Awful
Ads not conducive to sleep. I understand one can subscribe to eliminate them but there is a way to integrate them without ruining the vibe. Too much preliminary talking, and horrible stories. That lumberjack story is just atrocious.

Great reader!
I listen to and appreciate so many of these- but as a mom, the stories that include children getting kid napped are not relaxing for bedtime. I need my mind to drift off to something less worrisome! Otherwise generally really great podcast and issues can be solved by picking another story.

Sleepy
Absolutely the best reader if you are looking for a comfortable listening experience. His voice is deep and melodic. He doesn’t do accents just reads in a simple fashion. I am asleep almost instantly which is the point. Additionally, he has podcast The Daily Book Club where he reads from a book a chapter each day. I find that my favorite. The purpose there is not to put you to sleep but if sleep is your goal it works. I like better as readings are longer. I fall asleep and next evening just replay where I drifted off. At last a reader I can love.

These are great to listen to
This is a great add on to another sleep podcast I love. I found this podcast just in searching for sleep podcasts. I didn’t realize that the podcast I use, Nothing much happens also enjoys the Sleepy podcast. The host of NMH always recommends Sleepy. I love both host’s voices, very calming and relaxing. I pass out right away.

The ads ruin it
I find them really jarring and annoying.

LOUD advertisements must go
Love the stories, love the mood, and I usually fall asleep. Unfortunately there are LOUD advertisements now playing at the end of the episodes that jolt me awake.

Sleepy is the Best
Truly struggled to fall asleep before finding this podcast. His relaxing voice and book choices are just right. been an avid listener since his first reading of wind in the willows. I’d like to request Heidi of the Alphs if possible!
Ok..🙂
Ads at end ruin it
I have loved this show for a long time, but lately there have been loud ads at the end of the reading…so I fall asleep listening to Otis’s lovely voice, but then I’m awakened by a loud Home Depot ad! I hate that this feels like extortion to pay for the ad-free version. Won’t be listening anymore I’m afraid.

“Listen to sleepy”😴
I love this so much “listen to sleepy” it’s is pretty much the best of all time I love listening to absent💗💗💗. Bye listen to sleepy 😴

Takes too long to get to the story.
Gave up after over 5 minutes of ads. It was aggravating and kind of the opposite effect of what we are going for.

Get to the story.
Ads, ads, Patreon, Patreon names. Long intro to story. Leave a review. Too much yapping.

Very relaxing
I love these stories and the relaxing way in which they’re read. I love so many of them, but I especially love the Sherwood Anderson stories because they’re profound and unique (strange, even, in the best of ways). Also they portray a lost era in America in which you knew your neighbors—knew them well, even—and life moved at a much slower, relaxed pace. More Sherwood Anderson, please! Also I agree with another listener that I’d listen to this podcast a lot more if books were read from start to finish over 10-20 weeks, versus a chapter from one book one week and a different chapter from a different book the next, then a reading of an unrelated short story, and so on. The readings are still very good, but the bedtime story podcasts I listen to the most are the ones that read a whole book from the first to the last chapter over many weeks.
