SlapperCast Episode 387: "No Knee Never No More"
What was intended to be a quick bag-and-tag for some leftover interview footage turned into a full 40-minute SlapperCast ramble.
We recap another mighty Blagfeather show with Lonefeather and drummer Justus Swantner, check in on Turbo’s difficult knee-replacement recovery, sing the praises of Moses Guest and Houston’s original-music scene, and look ahead to upcoming shows and future guests.

SlapperCast Episode 386: "Keeping the Seat Warm"
Turbo is back on SlapperCast with an honest update from the long, strange road of knee-replacement recovery. He talks about physical therapy, sleepless nights, pain management, getting basic movement back, and the surreal feeling of watching most of his life come to a crashing halt while Blaggards carry on without him.
We also reflect on the drummers who have stepped in during his absence, the respect they’ve shown for Turbo’s arrangements, and the almost wordless musical language the three of us have developed over the years.
Plus, our friends in Lonefeather join us to preview Blagfeather 4 at Rehab Bar on the Bayou, with Justus Swantner pulling double duty behind the kit, and Jana from Whispering Grove Renaissance Faire shares what makes their growing Southeast Texas community such a welcoming place for first-time faire-goers.

SlapperCast Episode 385: "Jimbo's Jam Room"
This week we’re joined by our old friend James “Jimbo” Edwards, who’s been kind enough to step back behind the Blaggards drum kit while Turbo recovers from knee surgery.
We recorded this in Jimbo’s rehearsal room after running through a few songs, so this one has a loose, candid, in-the-room feel as we talk about playing with in-ear monitors, finding the pocket, the return of Moses Guest, Jimbo’s years away from music, his work as a massage therapist with Hands in Harmony Bodyworks, and the very serious question of whether Chad should keep the beard (spoiler: he didn't).
We’re also including a short preview from our interview with Jana from Whispering Grove Renaissance Faire in Kountze, Texas, where she talks about what makes Whispering Grove such a welcoming place for first-time faire-goers, families, artists, vendors, and anyone who just wants to wander around under the trees for a while.
ALSO: our upcoming show at the Big Top with James on August 5th, possible opening songs, spicy food, van-loading skills, and a bit of candid bonus conversation after the camera stopped.

This week on SlapperCast, we pick up where last week’s Doug Stanhope conversation left off, digging into crowd work, hecklers, stage nerves, and the satisfying moment when you know you’ve won a room over.
ALSO: cover songs, why some songs deserve to be kicked into a higher gear, and what makes live music feel alive in the first place.

SlapperCast Episode 383: "Comedy Needs More Sunlight"
With Turbo recovering from knee surgery, Paddy and Chad hold down the fort for a wide-ranging episode covering Chad’s web design work at SmalleyPress (https://smalleypress.com/), Patrick’s yacht trip through the British Virgin Islands, and an unforgettable night with comedy legend Doug Stanhope at the Improv in Houston.
We also reminisce about our two-part episode of SlapperCast with Doug, which you can find here:

This week on SlapperCast, Turbo checks in with a final pre-op update before his knee replacement surgery, and we talk about what it’s been like keeping Blaggards moving with our rotating cast of excellent guest drummers.
We talk about the unexpected musical benefits of hearing different players reinterpret familiar parts, give our dear friend the brilliant KEITH YORK some well-earned love after his recent shows with us, and revisit the idea of expanding our long-promised new live album into something much more than originally planned.

SlapperCast Episode 381: "Pride of Deer Month"
In this episode, Paddy and Chad recap a busy week of Blaggards shows, including T-Bone Tom’s in Kemah, HSF Biergarten in Brenham, and the latest “Blagfeather” show at The Big Top.
We talk about the joyful weirdness of playing with different drummers while Turbo prepares for knee replacement surgery, including the return of longtime Blaggard drummer Mike McAloon, Keith York’s thunderous and emotional return to the Brenham stage, Justice Swantner of Lonefeather, and our upcoming shows with another former Blaggard, James “Jimbo” Edwards.
There’s also some big-picture talk about the future of live music, finding new places and new ways to play, the return of our Pirate Festival at HSF, upcoming Ireland dates, and a newly-announced Blaggards/Lonefeather show at Rehab Bar on the Bayou on July 18.
Also: Chad’s birthday, Patrick’s childhood European vacations, deer whistles, Thin Lizzy, Steve Earle, the sacred weirdness of Wednesday night gigs, and our heartfelt plea to PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN and actually experience the show while it’s happening.
Come see a show! We promise not to stare at our phones... if you don’t. ;)
At the end of the episode, enjoy the FULL performance of Paddy singing Thin Lizzy's "Killer on the Loose" with Lonefeather last Wednesday at the Big Top!

SlapperCast Episode 380: "Tumultuous Leprechaun"
This past weekend marked the beginning of the Big Turbo Hiatus, and we kicked it off by playing two really fun shows with our old friend KEITH YORK up in Granbury and Richardson at two of the finest new Irish pubs in Texas, The Pub McDonough and Gillespie's Irish Tavern.
Coming up this week, we have three shows with a different drummer each night. JUSTUS SWANTNER of Lonefeather on Wednesday, MIKE MCALOON on Thursday, and KEITH YORK again on Saturday.
And then at some point in the near future, we'll be joined by JAMES EDWARDS, whom y'all got to meet last week.
Lots of question marks hanging over Blaggards for the next few months, but it's going to be a fun ride.

SlapperCast Episode 379: "Captain Sidebar"
This week you get to meet our dear friend James "Jimbo" Edwards, one of the drummers who will be filling in for Turbo while he's recovering from knee replacement surgery.
James actually used to be a full-time member of the band... back in 2007, he was the second drummer to play with us following Brian Vogel, about two years before we met Mike McAloon. James also has a long history playing with Moses Guest, a legendary Houston band we were honored to share the bill with at GUEST FEST II last week (Chad also built and manages mosesguest.com).
We had our first rehearsal with Jimbo yesterday, and took a break to record this episode, reminiscing about the early days of Jimbo's original tenure with Blaggards, his history with music leading up to that, plus a few other silly things.
At the end is a bit of our rehearsal with James, cut with a montage of photos from the old days with James, playing at Fitzgerald's and the Continental Club.

SlapperCast Episode 378: "The Ghosts of the Music Stands"
This week we talk about Turbo’s upcoming surgery, his subsequent indeterminately long break from playing with the band, and the weird feeling of playing with fill-in drummers.
We do some shop talk (mostly about live sound engineers), and then, as we often do, we start talking about food.
