If Jesus never rose from the dead, He would have just been a nice guy who did some crazy miracles. If He never came back, these disciples would have never died for their faith and we would have no reason to believe in Jesus! The consequences of sin can be summed up by one word: death. Sin severely harms us as it separates us from God and can even lead us to cause others to suffer that same separation. No matter how big or how small the sin is it results in the same consequences that effect us both in life and eternity. Just like there is one thing that can separate us from God, there is only one thing that can save us from this sin. Sin always over promises and always under delivers. It continues to promise us happiness, fulfillment, identity, purpose, and that is why God hates it. God hates that sin deceives us into believing we are being lead to satisfaction, when in reality we are left alone filled with shame and guilt. The good news is that God still loves us despite our sin and has a made a way for us to live a new life that fulfills every promise. We often choose to live life by our own terms in our own ways. Little do we know that “going our own way” or “following our own path” is how the prophet Isaiah describes sin. Jesus describes sin ranging from the extremes of murder to the simplicity of calling someone a fool. What these individuals are doing is reminding us that each and every one of us is subject to sin. Just because we are all subject to it doesn’t mean we have to give in and live in fear, so what can we do?
