Pandemic restrictions are ending and people are getting together again, but here’s one more episode as a series finale. It’s an audio snapshot of the Yampa River in downtown Steamboat Springs — a favorite family getaway for hiking, tubing, swimming and outdoor fun in general. I recorded this episode sitting on a rock in the middle of the river while the boys played in some nearby hot springs. Thanks for listening! Recorded on the morning of June 24, 2021.

It’s a landmark episode of Sit w/ Me: our first segment by a guest producer! My nephew Kyle stopped by a special place in his corner of Philadelphia and captured the sounds of a spring day. Thanks, Kyle! Recorded April 10, 2021.

An episode created close to home — in my driveway in Denver’s University Hills neighborhood, actually. It’s the sound of my corner of the city coming to life: birds, passing cars and the persistent rumble of the Interstate in the distance. I usually travel a little further to make these episodes, but this one sounded good to me after a run on a chilly spring morning. Recorded April 8, 2021.

The whole family took a trip to northeast Utah for a weekend of hiking, exploring canyons and checking out dinosaur fossils. And since Dinosaur National Monument has one of the darkest night skies in the U.S., we took in the stars and a full moon too. Here’s the sound of sitting next to the Green River on a moonlit spring night. Recorded March 28, 2021.

It’s snowing a lot in South Denver today. Traffic on Colorado Boulevard, a six-lane thoroughfare, is just a trickle this afternoon. And many of the vehicles you do hear or see are snowplows. Here’s the sound of standing in a foot of snow on the side of the street. There’s a lot of wind noise in this episode, and you can hear the icy snowflakes pelting the microphone at times. Sorry about that but it’s a pretty crazy day to stand around outside. Recorded March 14, 2021.

You can see a lot from the top of Genesee Mountain, whose summit is at the end of a short hike near Evergreen. Pikes Peak and downtown Denver are both visible. The birds made plenty of noise as the mid morning sun warmed popped out from behind a cloud and warmed the treetops. We also heard hikers, their dogs and some traffic from the nearby highway. And Kim was there, too. Recorded March 7, 2021.

Just off Interstate 70 in the mountains west of Denver, a herd of bison lives in two big pens on either side of the highway. My family loves to see them when they visit. But they can’t visit in the pandemic, so here’s what it would sound like if you drove up to Genesee and sat outside the bison pens on a moonlit winter night. Recorded Feb. 26, 2021.

There’s a stretch of the South Platte River where I used to go for walks when I was in high school. It was beautiful to hear the sound of the fill the canyon then, and it still is. So I pulled out my phone and captured the moment while I was hiking there last week. Recorded Jan. 22, 2021.

We haven’t been able to get together too much lately. We can text or talk on the phone, but we can’t sit together and have a moment. This little podcast might be the next best thing. My name is Brad and I’ll take you to some cool places not far from where I live in Colorado and capture the sounds. Pop in your earbuds, press play and maybe it will feel like we’re sharing a genuine moment.
