In today’s episode we get to hear from David Amoo. David is a professional footballer from South London who got his start at Liverpool and currently plays for Port Vale in League 2 of the English Football League. I’ve got to know David a bit over the last few months and can honestly say he’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. What stuck out most to me in this conversation was when David said that his current club was the only place he's ever been asked if he was prepared for life after football. David has been a professional for over 10 years and played at approximately 10 clubs. Well done Port Vale, but that's not good enough from everyone else.
I hope you enjoy getting to know David through the interview and listening to the story of his journey. David has a great attitude and is eternally optimistic but his ride has not been a smooth one.

This episode features diving duo, David and Kacee Hoffer. They are both former D1 Competitive divers; David at Arizona State University and Kacee at Boise State University. David is still a competitive diver and has qualified for the Team USA Olympic trials that were delayed for a year due to Covid. David and Kacee offer us a glimpse into their crazy world of competition, training, full-time jobs, disappointment, injuries, oh yeah, and being newlyweds. They are an amazing couple and I hope you enjoy their story as much as I did!

Welcome back to the Sing When You’re Losing Podcast! In this episode, I get the privilege of interviewing former Premier League and FIFA Referee, Lee Probert. Lee was forced into early retirement following an injury he incurred in a collision during a match he was refereeing. After having surgery on his back, he was never able to fully recover. Like many athletes, this sent Lee into a bit of a tailspin. In this interview you’ll hear how this affected him and how he’s managed to pull through the mental health issues he suffered after retiring. We also get to ask him some questions we’ve always wanted to ask a referee but never got the chance.

Welcome to the Sing When You’re Losing Podcast! A podcast about resilience. I believe that setbacks and struggles aren’t meant to stop us, they’re meant to teach us. Across this series, I interview athletes, coaches, managers, trainers and more so that we can glean from their wisdom and learn from their stories for how to Sing When You’re Losing.
In this episode, I get the privilege of interviewing Reggie Calhoun, Jr. I cannot express how impressed I am with this young man. Reggie is a former College athlete who has turned entrepreneur/Sportspreneur. What’s amazing about Reggie’s business is that everything he does is to make other people’s lives better.
As ever, when recording online, there are a few sound issues, but it does get better as we go, so please persevere. I have no doubt that if you do, you will be as impressed with Reggie as I am.

In this episode I get the privilege of Interviewing Sam Acho. Sam is player in the NFL. Having spent the last 9 years playing linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he is currently a free agent. While I hope he is able to find a new team soon, what is more impressive about Sam is his passion for making the world a better place. Sam is a peacemaker, a connector, a mentor, a fundraiser, an advocate, and so much more. Football is what he does, but he’s never let it define his identity. I hope you enjoy this conversation and please go and pre-order his new book now, “Let the World See You: How to be real in a world full of fakes” at www.samachobook.com.

In this episode I get the privilege of interviewing Dr. Mustafa Sarkar. Mustafa is Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. He is doing a great work in research on Resilience: Individual, Team and Organisational. Resilience is over used and often misunderstood. I loved having this conversation as we discussed a fuller meaning of resilience and why this is so important. Elements of this conversation will benefit Professional and Amateur athletes and Coaches, as well as others working in sports to improve performance as well as overall well-being. Don't forget to rate and subscribe wherever you listen to your podcasts! I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as I did having it.
This interview was done via Zoom, so please bear with us on the occasional lack of sound quality. Now, get comfortable, and join me, your host, Buddy Owen as we all learn to Sing When You’re Losing.
