On this episode of “Simplifying Life Through Technology,” Mark and Sue from SoundVision sit down with David Bengston from Alair Homes of Lake Norman during our Bang & Olufsen VIP Music and Lighting Experience event.“It’s ok to make the mistake, it’s not good to do it again.”Alair Homes is the largest custom home builder in the USA and Canada with 100 franchises. Alair homes produces nearly 3,500 homes a year with prices ranging from $250,000 - $1.2 Million. Projects vary from new constructions, remodeling, and home additions. Alair Homes of Lake Norman typically work on 10-15 projects a year.Prior to working for Alair Homes, David was a mechanical engineer. He worked for GE for eight years before heading to Miami to contribute to disaster relief from Hurricane Andrew. Working to help rebuild a community is what sparked David’s interest in construction. Moving to the Charlotte area to be closer to family, David went on to work in lighthouse construction in Charlotte.David partnered with Dwaye Johns to create the Lake Norman franchise of Alair Homes. Johns was a contractor with a notable reputation for his integrity and business model. After Bengston saw the increasing business Johns had in Charlotte, the two partnered up to bring Alair to the Lake Norman area. SoundVision worked alongside David on a new construction home in Lake Norman. We provided the low voltage for the home David’s team was building. Michelle has filled several roles within SoundVision over time. We touch on her role in creating our Service Membership program and the marketing efforts that brought in a million dollars in business last year. For over a decade, Michelle Ferlauto has been in the Charlotte Lake Norman smart home industry. Previously with Today’s Audio Video until 2013 and then until 2018 with Interactive Interiors. In understanding how important a good service and process foundation is to the core structure, Michelle has been very successful at cultivating relationships with manufacturers and suppliers while advocating on behalf of her clients best interests through our SoundVision Service Department. Michelle’s can-do will-do attitude has brought her great success.Michelle discovered her passion for small business' early on after accepting a position on behalf of the Seattle Police Guild to convert their off-duty program into a non-profit business. She completed the small business administration and finance program at Green River College and most recently, Digital Marketing Sciences through UNC Charlotte.
