• Thank you for listening to the first episode of the What is it? Series. Where I attempt to take a subject of conversation that is prevalent in our everyday life and attempt to answer what it is fundamentally, and then understand the role it plays in various aspects of society such as culture, religion, race, sex, politics, etc. • Thinking through what I wanted to discuss first has definitely been a challenging exercise, personally. I wanted to start this series with something that was meaningful, impactful, whether positively or negatively--and also one that would challenge my own thoughts and beliefs, and hopefully yours as the listener as well. Ultimately, I landed on the topic of "Identity". I believe that this is a good jumping off point as it forces us to look at how the concept of  how identity (both in the individual and collective sense) is defined and how it impacts the world around us. Also, once we have this established, organically, more topics will present themselves. Now for the disclaimer: I'm not here to change anyone's mind. I'm not doing this to coarse someone into believing a certain set of principles, ideology, or dogma. My personal belief is that if an authority figure or one who likes to pretend to be so--is telling you what to believe, how to believe it, and chastises those you for questioning WHY-- is reprehensible and the metaphorical high ground that they've chosen to stand on from a moral, philosophical, or intellectual stance--tumbles like a house of cards. As always, I would encourage you to do your own research and come up with your own opinion. There are plenty of NPCs in our society today who espouse ideological talking points like a Pavlovian test subject or cringe at the thought of critical thinking--I urge you to not be like them. As citizens in western civilization, we all are subjected to many interesting topics and      ideologies that have assisted in cultivating what we call everyday life.  The idea of identity, for example, has been drastically shifted from its'      original premise in psychological research--and has recently crossed over into realms such as politics, religion, sex, race, and others. With the amount of      information that we get bombarded by a daily basis from mainstream media,      social media, politicians, and influencers--it can be overwhelming. Many      "subject matter experts" simply stick to talking points to      solidify their argument or their own individual agenda. That's why I'm      creating the "What is it?" series on the SCS. My intent is to take many of      the most popular subjects in society today, and attempt to understand them      fundamentally, from a cultural, psychological, spiritual, and political      standpoint. My mission is to garner new perspectives and even challenge my      own individual stances on these topics So join me, as we ask      "What is it?", in the attempt to gain more knowledge--in our      ever evolving, for better or worse--thing we call life.
