Trash burning episode is very disappointing.
I normally love this show. But this felt like PR for the water incineration industry. Why were the industry representatives referred to as “experts” over and over, and the science-based non-profit representative not? And it didn’t even explain that the industry reps were from the waste incineration industry. And how can you even do a longish piece like this without mentioning the chemicals created by burning plastics like dioxins and furans that are so toxic and long lasting? This felt like PR, not science.

Everyday science
I enjoy the science tidbits that I would otherwise never know about like the LA micro forest. Thank you Emily and team for reminding us of the importance and miracles of science and nature!

Less politics more science
Their politics I can do without but the science is what keeps me coming back!

Not always 100% on, but love it!
There are a few little bits I would tweak, but overall I really appreciate this podcast getting some important (& fun) info. to the public. Thank you!

Fantastic Family Listen
I always learn something I never knew I needed to know on Short Wave. Fun questions, upbeat hosts, great pacing, and my kids are happy to have it on in the car, too!

Vax show
Typical NPR misinformation. Use the AI of your choice for Thimerosal…..there are alternatives. I’m unfollowing this podcast.

Love the show
But please do not overproduce your show like so many NPR shows by adding music in the background which to me as a distraction from the great content you provide

Short wave
More like long wave (it’s a good thing)
Bananabreadawesomeness
Fascinating and enlightening. Highly Recommended.
The team at Short Wave dig up super-interesting scientific findings and share their conversations with the researchers. Manages to make the science understandable and digestible without dumbing down the content. Available add-free with plus version.

The best podcast ever!
The great thing about short wave is that you can listen to it in about 15-20min and of the episodes are kid-friendly! It perfect for a short car ride. We didn’t listen to it before One of my kids found it and it's a Hit!!! Best podcast ever!

I always have a story to tell
I listen to Short Wave every morning while I get ready, and every morning I have a story to tell my family or coworkers that starts with “I was listening to my science podcast this morning and…” I love the wide range of topics covered, and I learn something new every time I listen!

Great shows! But Regina’s kindergarten delivery is annoying.
Terrific writing, terrific guests! Thank you! However, Regina Barber’s condescending demeanor and frequent exclamations of “Oh!” “Wow!” “Really?!” sounds like she’s addressing an audience of very young children. Please don’t.

One of my favorite podcasts!
I’ve learned so much by listening to this treasure trove of science!

Family science time
There aren’t many podcasts (or music choices) I can find that two teenagers and adults all want to listen to - except shortwave. Instead of sitting on their phones in the back of the car, everyone listens and comments, it’s actual family time and we love the topics and hosts. That’s worth all npr+ subscriptions right there!

Great, quick show
Love all the science and interesting topics. Always seem to learn something.

Great quick hits
Lovely overviews of a broad variety of science topics, including those you didn’t know existed. It’s great that they get experts from around the world too.

An absolute delight
I started listening to this podcast in high school. It helped me feel connected to other science enthusiasts in the midst of the incredibly isolating pandemic. Five years later in grad school, now halfway across the world, it still does—never fails to brighten my day!

Brilliantly Random
I look forward to every random science episode and can’t wait til they drop. One of My favorite episodes is the one about nudibranchs. I almost went out and bought a salt water tank! Although climate change is very important, a few less episodes on that topic would be nice; that said, the recent episode on the factors which impact the different sea level rises around the world and the ranges in the calculations was fascinating

Short wave-amazing!
Short wave is one of my go to podcasts when I’m driving to work or doing chores around the house. I always learn something fascinating, my interest is kept, and it’s all in less than fifteen minutes. The hosts are relatable and funny but there isn’t too much banter. I love it!

Must-Listen for Science Communicators
I work at a science museum as an informal educator. Short Wave is a CRUCIAL resource for me and my coworkers. It’s more than a way for us to stay up-to-date on the latest science research. It also provides us with the language to explain that research to the public in a friendly and approachable way. Thank you for doing what you do! 5 million stars!

it's OK
pretty confused about what folks are learning or think they're learning, most of these episodes gloss over the complexity and nuance of the science imo; i WANT TO LIKE the show more, but i usually come away with more questions than answers, not in a thought-provoking way, but more in a please explain further way. for example: a whole episode on breeding apples without mentioning plants alternating generations betwixt sporophytes & gemetophytes, and claiming apple species are all clones when in fact they are only clones at a specific time (the moment of propagation) and once they begin to grow they develop genetic mutations (from mitosis) in various cell clusters or branches, which may often be inconsequential, but sometimes are the cause of a new type apple (the point of the episode).
also i assume it's a jokey/catchy name, ..but radiowaves do not have short wavelengths. so i'm always curious about what the 'wave' is referring to in the title. i'm assuming the 'short' refers to the episode length, just long enough to have folks think they're understanding something or are learning something, but i'd be curious about the responses from a survey asking what folks learned from an episode. (ex: 'apples are bred. often by painstakingly labor-intensive means'; is there anything else to be learned? i use this episode as my example not bc i don't love apples or i didnt specifically like the episode idea, but merely bc its the most recent and exemplified the oversimplification format). no offense intended to anyone working on the show.

One of my favorite podcasts
Shortwave is one of my “must listens”! I’ve been listening since the beginning and I’m still learning from it all these years later. What do I love about it? It’s short yet chock full of info, the hosts are a delight (personable, approachable and funny), and I learn about things that I never even knew were out there - without having to dedicate more than 15 mins of time, win! Keep up the great work!

We love science so we love this podcast. It’s not political so it’s a great relief to listen to it. We learn new things every time we listen with almost no stress at all!

Consumable. Positive. Informative. Current.
Easily one of my favorite podcasts. It’s light-hearted and consumable. But even as a life-long science and engineering nerd, it’s never failed to make me say “Huh. That’s new.”

Love the show!
I really love this show. They take complex topics and break them down for laypeople and do it in such a fun and engaging way. They do a great job balancing the coverage of current events and finding happy stories that I’d have otherwise missed. I am so grateful for this show. Thank you everyone who works on it.

Science for all
Bite sized understandable science across wide range of topics. What makes it perfect is the length of 15 to 20 mins, and use of casual yet scientifically correct language to provide information. The range of topics keeps it interesting and fun perfect for commute , even after a long day
The hosts are great too!

I’ve been listening to Short Wave for a few years and it never disappoints. I am a teacher and I feel like an excited student filled with wonder and the joy of learning something new. The hosts feel like friends and present the science in an accessible way. I also learn new jargon along the way! Thanks Short Wave, I truly envy the work you do!

Bite size science
It is delightful to hear about the variety of things happening in science. It is presented in an enthusiastic nerdy yet user friendly manner. It leaves enough info that you can dig deeper if you are inclined.
Even when the findings are not what I want, I am glad to hear that we are learning new things.

Interesting & Positive
This podcast is always interesting and has a positive message.

Misinformation beware!
These people preach about not taking medical advice from TikTok, yet they give medical advice via a podcast?! Very biased and one sided. Stick to the science. That means mention ALL studies, not just the ones that fit your narrative.

Perfect for the science nerd on the go
Informational quick stories about all kinds of science. And they bring the receipts (lots of citations). Love the interviews! Adds to my party story repertoire.
