This solo show comes on the heels of the major upheaval in our nation and within in our culture.
I have received so many messages, calls and visits from my white friends and I wanted to create a place of reference and love.
This is what was in my heart to say. It may not be popular but I can only speak from my experience.
- “Black” is okay to say
- Stop telling us about your black best friend in elementary school
- Ask your black friends what they need
- Tell your black friends that you won’t tolerate racism in your life
- Teach and educate your kids about the struggle
- Recognize that you have NO idea what we go through. NONE
- Listen when your black friends talk.
- Speak up when your white friends talk.
- Support Black owned businesses, authors, creatives, accounts
- Don't vote for Trump.
- Stop saying, "I don't see color"
- Read. Research. Expand your knowledge base.
- Biracial children should be taught their heritage. If you don’t know it: learn it!
- You don’t get to decide if you offended me
- Stop saying All Lives Matter! The reason we have to single out Blacks is because people obviously don’t feel that our lives matter
- It’s okay NOT to march with us. Stay home and educate your people. This is our fight. M
- Support the movement but you AREN’T the movement. We are the movement
- Silence speaks loudly
I want the following people to know that your love and support has meant the world to me: Allie, Amy, Anita, Audrey, Emily, Glenda, Hayley, Jamie, Kameran, Karyn, Kelley, Lee, Lindsay, Lizzie, Maegan, Misty, Nancy, Paige, Paula, Shannon C., Shannon K, Stevie, and Susan.
