Great oral history from members of this enigmatic band, which charted its own musical territory at the end of the 20th century and produced numerous profound recordings. Intrepidly veering between poetic and bombastic folk-rock, Trip Shakespeare’s troika of lead singers flew their angelic vocal harmonies over unique rhythms, thoughtful musicianship, and some of the most exquisite lyrics and melodies of the era. That work of this merit is not better remembered makes this podcast all the more valuable. Kudos to musician/host Morgan Taylor who plays the role of expert enthusiast and jogs each band members’ memory to tell the history of an innovative and singular American band.

Fun, informative and funny. I am pinching myself that this podcast actually exists. My friends and I saw them at the Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS at least ten times back in the day. Good to see their legacy is revered in this way.

Tragically under appreciated Minneapolis rockers Trip Shakespeare finally get some much deserved love. This is great.

Trip Shakespeare is my favorite band and Morgan Taylor is the perfect host for this show. Morgan is not only a knowledgeable archivist and massive fan of the band, but he is also a successful musician who opened for the band and has collaborated with members of the band on albums. He is truly the perfect emcee to get great stories and an oral history of the band, because his own ear for music is so well trained. Lulu is my favorite album, one I’ve listened to countless times and in the episodes with Matt and John I heard elements that I’d never fully noticed or appreciated before. What a gift to all Trip Shakespeare fans that this show exists.

Trip Shakespeare was one of the great unsung bands of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Their music is timeless pop that never sounds dated unlike the tsunami of grunge that was their fate. This podcast opens the door for fans to understand where and how this music conceived and made.
