Big fan of what is clearly a huge amount of work and care put into each episode. It’s akin to reading a New Yorker piece in the way they cite adjacent references to support and expand the conversation.

These gals do their homework. I love that they delve into modern topics— it makes me more interested in Shakespeare than I ever was in my classes at school. Honestly would’ve loved this to help me write my papers in college lol.

One star knocked off because you both said how excited you were that “President Elect Biden was announced yesterday.” That didn’t age well, huh? And also because I found the same info verbatim on the Royal Shakespeare Academy website that I heard here. As a compliment, these girls seem to authentically enjoy Shakespeare’s content for the genius it construes. But some history is presented here as authoritative that is not reflected in the consensus of historical accounts as definitively known.

This is my favorite podcast of all the podcasts I listen to across many subjects. The insights are unique, thoughtful, well-researched, contemporary. The two hosts clearly show how Shakespeare is still relevant. They make me want to see again Shakespeare plays I’ve seen before because I now can watch with more critical eyes. I look forward to listening every two weeks. It would be marvelous if the two hosts would but their thinking into a book.

This podcast brings together so many wonderful sources and presents them in ways that make Shakespeare (who I used to be deathly afraid of!) easy to understand and way more interesting than I could have imagined! Kourtney and Elyse are such good hosts! I could listen to them for hours. Actually...I guess I have!

Very well researched in terms of Shakespeare, but when it comes to general history, the hosts speak very authoritatively about things they are getting wrong. For example, Henry VIII only had one of his wives executed for not producing a son - the other was beheaded for suspicion of adultery. And none of his wives was ever accused of witchcraft in their lifetimes. That was made up later in the 19th century. So maybe just skip the intro episodes and dive right into the plays.

This podcast is AMAZING! It’s been hard for me to find ways of really diving into Shakespeare plays other than just having a teacher who knows a lot. This goes way past the “what is iambic pentameter?” level to really digging into cultural context, history, and just endlessly fascinating knowledge on each show. It’s also easy to follow, and I’m glad I’m not having to read stuff like “Demonology” on my own haha. The content is well researched and very thorough with lots of interesting perspectives I’ve never heard/considered. I’ve read many books on Shakespeare but this may be the best resource I’ve found. I find this podcast especially interesting and helpful as an actor to really develop ideas and explore the play on a deeper level than may be possible through director advice alone. It’s also very helpful as a tool to keep learning and not fall behind with Shakespeare as I’m taking a gap year right now. I’m geeking out about this podcast!! Please listen if you love Shakespeare!

Several full episodes are dedicated as a kind of block to discussion of each play, along with interspersed mini-episodes that provide background and context to many plays or Shakespeare's times/work/millieu. Elyse and Korey pull off an impressive balancing act of constructing substantive, educated discussions while maintaining a great flow and keeping things entertaining. I love that they each bring in their own research and reading to discuss with each other, as well as the occasional guest speaker. I'm totally hooked and I planning my own quest to read all of Shakespeare's plays around this podcast's production schedule.
