“Scholastic Games,” is weekly high school quiz program featuring the schools of Lorain County, Ohio, in the heart of mid-America.   It is produced from January through May of each year.  This fourth program of our 35th season features teams from Avon Lake High School and Amherst Marion L. Steele High School.  The team from Avon Lake consists of Andrew Cline, Jacob Mars and team captain Alex Chmiel.   Competing for Amherst Steele  are Nathan Stewart,  Tony Davis, and team captain Aiden Workman.  All winning teams will advance to a playoff level, and those with the six highest scores will advance directly to quarterfinals.  Included among the winners will be the highest-scoring losing team, to be designated a “wild card.”  Subsequent programs will be released Monday or Tuesday each week until the end of May when our championship broadcast will be held

Dialogues on Education is a companion program to the weekly quiz program Scholastic Games of Lorain County.  Each week, program host Bob Tayek speaks to individuals who can shed light on a particular facet of the world of education, from the instruction of children to the broadening of experiences for older adults.  This week’s program is the third in a series of special presentations for Black History Month.  It is a comprehensive interview with the grandson of Garrett Morgan, a significant figure in Black history.  Morgan was an Ohioan who achieved success as a prolific inventor.  His most notable innovations were the first three-position traffic signal, the first step in the development of modern traffic lights.  He also devised an early form of gas mask, which saved lives following a disastrous Cleveland explosion in 1916.  Memories about Morgan’s life  include both his successes and his experiences with racial discrimination.

“Scholastic Games,” is weekly high school quiz program featuring the schools of Lorain County, Ohio, in the heart of mid-America.   It is produced from January through May of each year.  This second program of our 35th season features teams from Elyria High School and Olmsted Falls High School, two of the largest schools in the area, and both schools were for a long period the only  five-time winners of our annual county academic championship.  The team from Elyria consists of Anthony Schmitz, Seth Frabotta and team captain Isaac Quast.  Competing for Olmsted Falls  are Abigail Bringman, Joseph Brossard, and team captain Elli Naso.  All winning teams will advance to a playoff level, and those with the six highest scores will advance directly to quarterfinals.  Included among the winners will be the highest-scoring losing team, a designated “wild card.”  Subsequent programs will be released Monday or Tuesday each week until the end of May when our championship broadcast will be held. 

Dialogues on Education is a companion program to the weekly quiz program Scholastic Games of Lorain County.  Each week, program host Bob Tayek speaks to an individual who can shed light on a particular facet of the world of education, from the instruction of children to the broadening of experiences for older adults.  This week’s program focuses on the programs of an organization that focuses on the unique history of the city of Oberlin, Ohio.  The home of the first coeducational college in the United States and once an active center for the Underground Railroad, assisting escaped slaves on the way to freedom, the city has a rich and inspiring history.  Bob’s guest is Amanda Manahan, the Education and Tour Manager of the Oberlin Heritage Center.  We proudly present this as the first of three programs relating to Black History Month.

Dialogues is a short interview program, a companion to the weekly quiz program.  The host is Cleveland broadcast journalist Bob Tayek presenting interviews that explore various aspects of the world of education, from classrooms to boardrooms, museums to the great outdoors, from access issues to scholarships, teaching trends and methods to school safety, and much more.   This premier program of 2025 details activities of the Community Foundation of Lorain County, one of the benefactor organizations of the Scholastic Games and so many other nonprofit ventures in the region.  The guest is Cynthia Andrews, President and CEO of the organization. Welcome to the FIRST PROGRAM of our 35th Season of “Scholastic Games,” a weekly high school quiz program featuring the schools of Lorain County, Ohio, in the heart of mid-America.   It is produced from January through May of each year.  The team are from Firelands High School in Oberlin, Ohio, and Lake Ridge Academy, a private school in North Ridgeville, Ohio.  Competing for Firelands are Andrew Bartish, Brody Schlechter, and team captain Aiden Bokulich.  Competing for Lake Ridge are Marco Sison, Zohair Khan, and team captain Andrew Traul.  All winning teams will advance to a playoff level, and those with the six highest scores will advance directly to quarterfinals.  Other winners and the highest-scoring losing team, a designated “wild card,” will play off for the remaining quarter final slot.  Subsequent programs will be released Monday or Tuesday each week until the end of May when our championship broadcast will be held.  .
