Thank you Marc and Chad for helping me get through the first 9 months of covid pandemic, quarantine, etc. I lived in SF for 15 years and Oakland for 2, so hearing Bay Area types talking about local stuff and movies/music/tv/culture has been very comforting now that I left that all behind and moved to North Carolina. I am super stoked that you’re back at it after some time away, and you didn’t just can it and move on. I was getting worried there for a minute! Peace, y’all.

I'm hooked!
I've never been a fan of horror films and yet I could listen to these two (Marc and Chad) go on about anything. Their smart, funny, and thought provoking conversations are really a breath of fresh air in the podcast space right now. They have turned me on to so many great films (which I will only watch during the daytime). Bonus!!!
Thanks guys! Keep it up!

The Best Horror Podcast
Scary Thoughts is the best horror podcast out there, hands down. Amidst the growing pains of how people take in, respond to, and live with the internet, Chad and Marc’s voices are a breath of fresh air. Their ability to openly discuss issues on both sides of the polarizing political spectrum with nuance, kindness, and grace is reassuring and important. Even if they’re just discussing horror movies, through their dialogue they show how culture and conversation are among the sharpest tools we have to make sense of the complex world around us.

Been a struggle to find a good horror movie centered podcast but finally stumbled upon these guys. The hosts have a great rapport and deep love and appreciation for a wide variety of horror movies. Highly recommend!

One of my favorites
I totally had to re arrange my top three podcast after finding this funny, insightful trip down memory lane. All the best horror from the 80s-90s plus lots of the best new horror too. Highly recommended

Breath of fresh air
I love being able to listen and hear things I haven’t been able to articulate that have definitely crossed my minds. This podcast hits the nail on the head and I would love to contribute in some way for a Nightmare On Elm Street.

Easy my favourite podcast
I am so glad that I literally stumbled across these guys in a huge sea of podcasts that are out there. Super thoughtful and insightful. I often take notes on the films, essays and books they cite. I’ve even bought and enjoyed a few after their recommendation. Honestly, if I could ONLY pick one podcast to listen to, this would be it.
...and I’m not even really a fan of horror film/television so there you go...

The Forgotten Works
Compulsive listening
There are different podcasts for different contexts and moods, but Scary Thoughts is the only one that I listen to habitually, even to the point of ignoring the don't-listen-if-you-haven't-watched-the movie-yet admonishment (though they've softened on that one lately (thanks Marc...)).
Chad and Marc's dynamic is great, and I think they surprise themselves about that at times. They are genuinely different people, but they have complementary viewpoints and make good use of their high cultural and pop cultural knowledge. They drive me to see movies I would otherwise not have, and to book sources as well.
The essence of a good podcast is the feeling of being in a room with people you want to hang with and learn from. Thanks Marc + Chad for making the most of the medium.

Life Effectively Changed
A fascinating Episode 19 of Scary Thoughts with Chad Lott and Marc Kate and their review of Black Swan with Monique Jenkinson delving into the abject and the creation of the "The Other".

[The Hook of the Abject, 1:29:45]
""I" am in the process of becoming an other at the expense of my own death, During that course I'm which "I" become, I give birth to myself amid the violence of sobs, of vomit."
*** PREACH SISTER!! Ain't that the way it always happens?!***
"...without either wanting or being able to become integrated in order to answer to it, it abreacts. It abjects”"

Amazing... Thanks Chad, Marc & Monique. I'm catching up on my horror shows and Scary Thoughts podcasts.

Best Horror Podcast Around
By far the most enjoyable podcast on the subject of horror that I’ve heard. Intelligent and engaging conversation all around.

Pure Excellence
Scary Thoughts provides such a pleasant listening experience because it has about it a sense of the communal. It really is two, in my opinion, very intelligent guys having fun and discussing with intrigue and depth the themes and ideas present in various sub-strains of horror movies-- some serious, some extremely silly: Forrest Gump-- while hilarity ensues. All of this aside, it's just good to hear a couple of fans ensconced in the particulars of their favorite genre because everybody desperately wants the emphatic reciprocation that that extreme level of devotion can offer when it is found in another individual. It's transcendent!

Don't miss out
This is one of the better horror podcasts out there today because they take the genre seriously. With only 19 episodes in - I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Blood, banter, and legit cultural reflection
This podcast is addictive. I'd say it's not just for horror buffs, but also for anyone who loves thinking about how art imitates life imitates art. Been listening from the start and it just gets better and better. Favorite episodes so far are The Witch and Beetlejuice.

It's a goodie
This podcast is rad, and it's making me want to watch horror again!

Two monsters and a sexy witch..
(And the witch isn't who you might think it would be..). Excellent discussion about Darren Aranofsky's 'Black Swan' with Marc and Chad and special guest Monique Jenkinson. This is a movie I loved and it was more than a treat to hear it dissected by these three. Well versed in popular culture as well as film and dance theory all three points of veiw were entertaining as well as informative - often hilarious. Now my 2-hour+ podcast listening cherry has officially been popped. (GROSS!) Thanks, JW

Smart, Engaging, and Uniquely Inclusive
Chad and Marc are insanely smart guys. It is evident from their highly articulate banter that they hail from academia, and they’re likely to prompt you to google a word or 2 every once in while. Any podcast worth its run time at its best makes you want to participate in the conversation - On that score, Chad and Marc’s lively exchange of ideas is top-notch chat-nip.
What makes this podcast such a joy is that they focus all that education on pop culture one might not think of as “high minded,” and without fail provide you with insights, theories, or anecdotes that truly make you want to re-watch a film you may have thought you hated. They ALMOST made me like the WITCH! That’s high praise… because I HATED that film. That being said, I respect it more, and consider it a noble failure as opposed to an abject failure.

What's your favorite scary movie?
You should let them know, because these guys really know how to make you fall in love with your favorite horror movie all over again! They put an insane amount of thought backing all of their ideas, and bring up philosophical concepts that had never crossed my mind. I love it! A great listen - everyone who gets pumped about any genre of horror films should subscribe!

Love the FEAR!
Marc & Chad bring a great sense of personality, personal stories, and deep knowledge to the aesthetic of horror and fear. Keep it up!

My love / hate relationship with Scary Thoughts...
Chad and Marc (Mark?) are on point with their well researched podcast on popular and the smaller auteur movies in the genre of horror. I throughly enjoy their drill-down approach and genuine love for many of the films they've covered though I've wanted to choke them repeatedly for making me sit through The Neon Demon just so I could be in step with their discussion. If you enjoy intelligent conversation that get down to the nuts and bolts of horror movies new and old, subscribe and tune in. I've listened since day one and always shout a "yes" out loud when I'm alerted to new episodes. Keep up with the excellence. I look very forward to Chad visiting with us on Popcorn, Piss & Vinegar to share info about scary thoughts and discuss Poltergeist with us.

The most insightful discussions of horror
Brilliant podcast. I've been waiting for something like this to come about for a long time. Full of intelligent in-depth discussions involving my favorite things in life. If philosophy had a baby with scary film, this would be the offspring. Thank you Peaches for letting me in on the birth of this awesome podcast. Looking forward to many more!

This is a fantastic show...
Most horror podcasts have me unsubscribing by the 2nd or 3rd episode. If it isn't the poor audio quality, it's the banality of the discussions by a bunch of fanboys. Not this show. The hosts have a truly unique perspective that offers more than just trite reviews of awful movies. Their insights are well thought out. I can't wait for the next episode

Five stars!
Give "Scary Thoughts" a listen! If the horror genre is your is your go-to watch or you're curious to learn more about it amongst a global, intelligent conversation, you will not be disappointed.

Exploring The Darkness
I've listened to and enjoyed the first two podcasts and am looking forward to checking out the third. Marc and Chad bring a lot to their discussions about the nature of horror as a genre, an aesthetic, a philosophy, and so much more. Entertaining, thought provoking, and well researched.

Wicked Smart
This podcast is everything I loved about being a film student..the conversations that spark after viewing a film/tv show. I enjoy hearing other people’s perspectives and what really jumped out at them as a viewer - from the way the shot is set up to the music, every single part is important.
I will admit that Horror is not a genre I generally lean towards, but because this podcast is so f’ing good, I have used it as a guide to broaden my horizons and be a little scared at the same time. I am watching each movie they review (if i haven't seen it yet) before listening, so I can be part of the conversation per-sea.
These guys are wicked smart, well versed, and their combined knowledge of the genre is mind blowing. Another plus is they are respectful to each other while speaking and not trying to one-up (it's not a debate). Real conversations are hard to find these days and this is one worth listening to.
Thank you guys for opening my mind and entertaining me while I do my weekend chores.
PS - The Woods are still scary.

Brilliant & very entertaining!
If you're a horror fan and like to think critically about movies, these two are your new best friends. But they're also accessible enough (and funny enough) that those with a more general or casual interest in horror movies would find a lot to love here. Great stuff.

Refreshingly smart, lucid, & engaging
I will say: I am not a devotee of horror movies. But that’s irrelevant as I am a devotee of intelligence and lucid and fresh takes on film (and life and politics and ideas and and and….). Marc and Chad make an incredible team, at once fans and thinkers. They seamlessly combine a love for the genre with critical insights that are surprising, that make me think, that make me rethink things I’ve seen and thought. What else can one ask for from a podcast? I cannot recommend more fervently.

Satisfies cravings of an analytical nerd
Fantastic! These two are so smart, but speak in a way that is easy to follow. I've been lucky so far to have already seen the films they are discussing, but I would go out of my way to pre-watch before an episode if they cover something I haven't watched. I can't wait for more episodes to come out!
