
The Henrietta Marie was a London-based slave ship that made two voyages — one in 1697 and 1698 – and it then wrecked during its second voyage, according to Malcom.The ship likely carried somewhere between 200-240 people – but many of them were destined to die, according to Malcom.“It was a given during the Middle Passage that some of those people would die because conditions on the ship were so horrible,” he says. “They were crowded together in unsanitary conditions and if one person was sick, that illness got spread.” - Dr. Malcom
