Such a refreshing look at the outdoor community
I absolutely love this podcast! Although I discovered it too late as it is no longer running, I am happily rewatching all the old seasons. The dynamic between Paddy O’Connell and Elizabeth Nakano is smooth and wonderfully hilarious. I find myself laughing and then crying in the span of minutes with some episodes. Thanks for broadening my mind, and my heart, and inspiring me to get outside !

The mysterious ending...of a good thing
First, thanks, Paddy, E and team. You created a wonderful podcast and covered plenty of valuable subjects, adding laughs along the way. I and others wish you the very best in the next journey.
Now about the ending...
Fr years, the spotlight on Chaco's support/sponsorship has been both fun and center stage. To end and not acknowledge their underwriting is...curious. I wear them but don't work for them, so take this for what it's worth. I'm left wondering if it was an amicable relationship in the end. Chaco was given ample spotlight along the way, but the sound of crickets when it came to thanking them in the final episode leaves me wondering about the backstory.
Take care, pals. And keep it real.

Thanks for the laughs and the tears
For the past year your show has been my go-to listen that I use as my reward for cleaning my chicken coop. I know, probably not what you’d envisioned but it has made an otherwise laborious task into something interesting and joyful. Please feel free to suggest a good replacement. I will miss you both and will likely be one of those who goes back into your archives to relisten when I need a good dose of Paddy and Elizabeth. Thank you and best wishes.

When are you coming back, Safety Third?
Absolutely love this podcast.

Love it
This is one of my favorite podcasts!!

Dopey
The topics of this podcast are good. But the hosts also seem to take the conversations in a dopey, juvenile direction. Talking to a bear expert, and he has to keep referencing the Chicago Bears? Lame.

Engaging, Funny, and Relatable
I love this podcast. As a weekend-warrior type dirtbag, this podcast fills up my love tank for all things adventure and the recreational lifestyle I love to lead. But I hear it all from my desk at work. The podcast hits on cultural topics that permeate the outdoor community and it’s great to hear them articulated so well. 10/10 would recommend this podcast.

An absolute soul-quencher
Every time I refresh my recently updated podcasts and see that there’s a new episode of Safety Third, I scream like a kitten on Christmas. A jolt of electricity courses through my body, my palms start to sweat. That’s what the anticipation of the angelic voices of Paddy and Elizabeth feels like. I know that by the end of the podcast, Paddy will have made me belly laugh- the rest of my gardening crew then proceeds to stare at the girl with earbuds laughing hysterically. And Elizabeth will have balanced Paddy’s fun-loving approach to life with her more serious and calculated (but still sweet and fluffy on the inside) reasoning. These two are a dynamic duo- each extremely articulate in their own uniquely gorgeous way. If you’re looking for a curious, humorous, outdoor podcast- this is it! If you lack a sense of humor and have a dark soul with no room for laughter or tolerance for people who have varying degrees of skill levels in the outdoors- relax <3 Keep shining your beautiful light and paving roads to smiles, P&E. So much love for this podcast.

Thank You
I just wanted to say thank you for not only dealing with the awesome, the political, but more importantly the hard stuff. Keep it up. Kill the stigma!!!

I LOVE this podcast!
If you’re not listening to this podcast stop what you’re doing and check it out! The hosts Paddy and Elizabeth do an incredible job of sharing inspiring stories while mixing in inspiring thoughts, a huge amount of humor, and occasionally a tear jerker. They are a dynamic duo, and are such a joy to listen to. And remember “keep it loose, keep it tight, safety third!”

Inspiring. Funny. Thought-Provoking
I’m a big fan of this podcast. If you are a fan of Dirt Bag Diaries, this is a must to add to your list.
The hosts are hilarious, ask important questions and interview well, and the guests are from different backgrounds.
I have laughed, cried, and cried from laughter in this show. I’m thankful for Safety Third being in my life and try to share it with anyone I can!
Take a listen. Extremely enjoyable!

Great Podcast!
Great Podcast - love the host, the flow and the topics so far. Looking forward to hearing more.

Excellent & thoughtful
Despite the vague byline “ideas and how we come to believe in them” (only thing I dislike about this), this is a podcast about outdoor issues. I like the interviews and discussions of how to make the outdoors a better place for everyone. Inspired by the BAM interview, my wife invited BAM to her classroom to talk to her diverse group of students. Awesome

Okay but not an outdoor podcast
I have waited a while to review this podcast in hopes it would be as good as its parent podcast The Dirt Bag Diaries. It is overly focused on political issues with a hint of outside stories. If you’re looking for inspirational outdoor stories from your weekend warrior this is NOT the podcast for you. To sum up the podcast, it’s overwhelmingly political and skewed to one side of the political spectrum with the guise of be about explores of the outdoors.

Love this podcast
I’m an avid listener to podcasts and this is my favorite by far. The way the hosts address important/ heavy issues that are not easy to talk about while keeping it funny and entertaining is award winning. Fantastic insight and perspective on all episodes. Real lessons to be learned here. Can’t wait for more!

Can’t get into it
After devouring the Dirtbag Diaries I had high hopes for this podcast but after giving it a bunch of attempted listens since it’s come out I just can’t get into it. The dynamic between the hosts just feels uncomfortable to listen to because it sounds like they genuinely shouldn’t be hosting a podcast together. Paddy’s humor and relationship with the outdoors doesn’t seem like a good fit for this brand of podcast. Back to the Diaries for me!

Kinda disappointing
Paddy seems like he’s trying so hard to be funny. None of it feels genuine which is awkward because I’m writing this review after listening to the podcast about the death of authenticity.

Great podcast!
Love the structure and content of Safety Third! Paddy does a great job of providing humor and relatability. Most aren’t masters of every outdoor sport and he puts a lighthearted spin on interview questions that attract various types of enthusiasts or novices. Well done 👏

Male host needs to go.
The premise of the podcast so promise, but the male host is annoying AF with his lame jokes and lack of respect and knowlegde of the sports this podcast is supposed to be about. His humor is something one would hear from an obnoxius niaeve neophyte about the things we do. For example, "Crampons? Don't you mean tampons? HA HA HA" is something I would totally expect to hear from the male host. He is someone I would walk away from because he just doesn't get it.

Awesome show about life and outdoors
The banter between co hosts is hilarious
Opluguokfd
Cringe-worthy host
Listened to a few episodes, but the male host Paddy's style rubbed my fur the wrong way. His dialog with guests seemed too superficial. Also his addressing his female sometimes co-host as "Rage Kitten" made me cringe -- no wonder her appearances are infrequent.

So glad this podcast exists!
Our normal sports media touches on these subjects sometimes, but I’ve never felt like anyone has truly engaged the subject matter in anything but a superficial way, platitudes almost. This podcast gets in hard, picks the scabs that cover ugly subjects and discusses issues with the kind of brazen truth that makes great humor, if only because the host and guests won’t allow it to be tragedy.
The first episode I listened to, about addiction, is a discussion I’ve been needing gear for decades. Thank you. As a recovering alcoholic in the adventure sports industry this episode meant a lot to me, and gave me so much to think about and process.

Disappointed
Listened to the pilot episode with Chris McNamara and was pretty disappointed. Not with the guest, but with the hosts. Patty was gritting to listen to, both in his voice and the things he said. He doesn’t at all seem like the kind of person who should be hosting a podcast like this. For one thing, he got the acronym for BASE jumping wrong, and he was obnoxious in his joking disregard for the merit of sports like big wall climbing, skydiving, and BASE jumping. He flat out stated that he had no clue what Chris was talking about, denoting it as “climbing thingies”, and blabbering on about how un-fun and terrible climbing is. I had hoped that a show from Duct Tape Then Beer would at least employ a host who had basic knowledge of outdoor adventure sports, or at least have some respect for them. Definitely won’t be listening more, given the show continues with the current hosts.

I dig it. Can you dig it?

Variety is the spice of life.
A humorous approach to the good, the bad, and the ugly side of the dirtbag community. Paddy and rage Kitty have conversations that you typically have late at night around a fire on a climbing, rafting or skiing trip.

Wisdom from the outdoors community, for everyone
Hilarious, accessible, and immensly wise explorations of humanity from the outdoors community.

Great!
Interesting topics, fun to listen to, and well produced make for a great podcast to listen to.

The perfect podcast, I'm eagerly awaiting the next episode.

Funny and smart
This podcast is awesome if you love interesting people, well told stories, and the outdoors. It is funny, intelligent, and discusses real issues while also being entertaining - not an easy thing to do. Paddy’s sense of humor and genuine personality make him a great interviewer.

Great Work!
Safety Third brings a very real, sometimes emotional, voice to an outdoor industry that so often bottles up similar feelings inside. Paddy and Elizabeth's rapport, as well as Paddy's ability to lighten up difficult subjects with his humor make this pod a certified homerun.

Unique perspective on the outdoors and industries
The recent 'Learn from your Enemies' episode is a great example of this unique perspective on the world of outdoor sports, the businesses and personalities that make it run.

Bummer
NO!! I’m a huge DTTB fan and this just misses the mark for me. Stories take too long to develop and the humor is a little too much. A little laugh is nice, this is too much for me.

Not a fan
Couldn’t even make it through a full episode. I did not like the hosts and felt like they were trying way too hard to be funny. I’ll stick to the Dirtbag Diaries.

Great Program!
Captivating storytelling done right! I’m not your typical “outdoor” guy, but found this wonderfully engaging regardless. In the end, we’re all sharing the human experience together, and this program pulls at the questions we all ask each other, answering with both respect and clever humor. What drives us? What does it mean to grieve? To love? To risk everything? To try something no one has done before? “Safety Third” eagerly seeks the answers with style!

Fun and entertaining
A solid exploration of story and the underlying ethos of the outdoor community. Each piece is funny, a little irreverent, but most all very interesting. The in depth look at the hardships, and drivers of prominent people in the outdoors gives a quality insight into people that do crazy things for fun. A in depth answer to the age old question, "Why climb mountains?"

A breath of fresh air
Awesome topics and interesting insights. Love it, looking forward to more.

lusty velvet overtones
Paddy's voice is full of rich dark currants, gushing blackberry, fragrant tobacco, rich soil, white flowers, smashed minerals and metal. It is full-bodied, laden with mocha, loamy soil, charred herbs, pencil shavings, and roasted hazelnut. All of that just pouring into your ears.
The show has interesting characters that make it perfect for cellaring, but it can also be binged.
